Steers vs Burger King

Drove past there after 7pm last night. Queue was still out into the square.

I was there yesterday around 4pm with 2 friends to see what the big fuss was about. Queue outside was about 30min wait, went in and ordered. The order contained a Double Whopper meal, Extra Long Chili Cheese meal, 6 chicken wings, 6 onion rings, 6 chili cheese nuggets and a chocolate brownie with ice cream. Took another 30min to get the order. Clue number 1.

Went to sit down at one of their downstairs table. 2 items missing from the order. Wings and a chocolate brownie. I went back to the counter and waited another 10min before any employee noticed me waving at them and responded. Two of the employees actually looked straight at me before, then just turned around and walked off to go screw up another order. Clue number 2.

Back at the table our food had gotten quite cold from having to wait for them to fix the order. The items that were enjoyable were the Whopper, chips and bottomless cold drinks. Yeah, that's it. The Whopper is a decent sized burger with good taste. Chips are similar to McD but thicker cut. Cold drinks are bottomless and they have a good variety to choose from. Only Pepsi brands though.

Now to the other items. Do not for a second be fooled by the name of the Extra long Chili cheese. The whole thing is about the size of a hotdog bun. Now if that is "extra long", the creators of that menu really have a sizing issue. And to pay R27.90 for that alone is a complete rip-off. The onion rings were awful. Basically a round piece of dough that absorbed so much oil while cooking, it would put a penguin, caught in a BP oil spill, to shame. Chili cheese nuggets were OK. Really nothing special there. And you remember the wings and brownie that was left out of the order initially? I think they were in such a hurry to fix what they should have gotten right in the first place, they forgot to cook the wings properly and gave the wrong flavour brownie. The wings were still very pink inside and we got a "Blondie" (white chocolate brownie), instead of a "Brownie" (milk chocolate brownie). At this stage we all were quite over the whole Burger King hype and ended up throwing away the wings and onion rings. That's R38 in the bin. Before we left we went to the counter and asked to speak to a manager, but when no one showed up after about ten minutes we decided to leave.

So all-in-all a really bad first experience. And as they say, first impressions last. Will not be going back or recommend BK to any of my friends and family until they fix their serious lack of service and quality.

I reckon they can't handle the crowds anymore. They've had insane crowds for a straight 14 days now

Tired makes mistakes

Not defending, just observing

True, but can be corrected by hiring more staff and having the staff run shorter shifts. Like he said, first impressions last.

Wow, I knew the initial "quality" they launched with would drop eventually but damn, already?

I'm not as excited to go to BK after reading this post :(

I totally agree with IanM. Burger King is all hype and Steers is definitely worth the extra money for a King Steer burger . My onion rings were so disgusting at BK I could barely eat 2 of them. The burger meat quality isn't bad, better than McD's, but it was dry and the sauce on it to didn't make up for it to give it a decent flavour.

My buddy said his whopper was pretty good but not great. He was very disappointed with his long chicken. After living in the USA for 2 years he said ours was nowhere near as good.

I went two nights ago. Forgot to post a review so here it is. No pictures as I am sure everyone has seen the burgers already.

Here it goes

1x Big King
I think it was extremely tasty, definitely nothing like Mcd's and now better than Steers. I would admit, Steers in it's prime(a few years back) would probably edge out this burger but not anymore.
1x Long Chilli Cheese
My wife had this. It was good but not nearly as good as the Big king. I also don't like that jalapenos is what makes it chilli. So most of the burger is mild and then when you bite into a jala, your mouth goes on fire. I would have preferred a chilli sauce.
2x Chilli Cheese Burgers
Same as above. The cheese burger is good, but I don't like the jalapenos on this type of burger.
2x Hot Chips
Not impressed. Felt like a very small portion and also did not taste that good. I would say they need a new chips supplier to be honest.
6x Wings
Very impressed. It was very tasty and even though they gave me BBQ sause instead of hot sauce, I really enjoyed it.
1xPepsi
Was good, enough gas and enough syrup
1x Mirinda
Horrible, very very bitter. not at all like the cans. Won't have it again easily.

I found the staff to be very helpful and seemed to know what they were doing (unlike KFC and MCd's). The seating area is not bad, except they did not clean the tables and we had to do it ourselves. Overall I found the experience favourable and will definitely return when there is no line.
