Hi All,

I'm trying to gather some information here and need your help.

Long story short, we booked and paid for a movie showing on 29/06 then received the following SMS on the day.

Hi There,
Due to expected load shedding, your show has been impacted and cancelled.
Please contact the cinema management team for re-admissions.
Email address: [email protected]
Thank you.
SKT GX Team.

* Wife phoned the called the call centre, very nice staff but immediately advocated for us to contact/visit the branch directly.
* Person briefly mentioned a refund process which would take 7 days and we'd need to fill in a form but didn't seem to put much stock in that method.
* As you know, these corporates nowadays never put direct branch numbers anyway, so we couldnt get hold of the branch telephonically.
* We sent an email to the above mailbox but as yet, no response.

Now.. my issue is not the load shedding cancellation, but the process in its entirety.

What I want to know from you:
Have you experienced the same or have you abandoned your refund/reschedule due to the time/effort required? If you received your refund, how long did you wait and did you have to drive to a cinema just to get a refund?

Thanks everyone!

Last year I was in a film when load shedding hit, we just got a voucher for a complimantary movie. If the mall is close by I would just pop in and speak to the manager there maybe they can assist quicker than head office

It's been a very long time since I've had to get a refund for a movie booking, but I believe it was also a matter of getting a complimentary ticket for another showing and not a cash refund. Also, don't most movie theatres have generators these days?

Thanks for the replies thus far

So this exactly my issue, I shouldn't have to do that, petrol is expensive and its 2023. If there was a voucher code included in that SMS it would have been solved in that instant and the experience would have been as yours, seamless.

As above, comp ticket would have been perfect. Re the generators, would have thought so yes but guessing not this mall

Perhaps just to add, we had to subsequently book and paid for another movie on the same day, also SK, but different cinema, cause you know, disappointed kid in school holidays.

Possible solutions are:

Send a voucher code in the cancellation SMS
Credit my SK account with the same type of purchase (1 x kids ticket, 2D and 1 x adult ticket, 2D) so I can immediately rebook online
Provide a link in the SMS to a rebook/refund selection on their website

Guess I'm just trying to solve this process on behalf of others who have also experienced the frustration, unless I'm alone here :D

I was at cinemacenter in grand west watching the new Antman when the ending climax was interrupted by load-shedding.
They took 15 mins to start the movie again and when it did start they started it from the beginning. Took me another 15 mins to get someone to play it from the climax again.
