At first, I thought it was the movie. Five Fingers for Marseilles. The quality was like VHS. Then I went to see Black Panther and Love Lives Here. The picture quality was still bad. In December 2019 I went to watch Terminator and it was exceptionally bad, especially the night scenes. You can't see the way you should. The cinema in question is Newtown Junction in Johannesburg. The ticket price currently is R60.

On Friday I watched Bad Boys For Life at Sterland in Pretoria. The ticket price is R40. Picture quality is very bad and again exceptionally bad during night scenes.

I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The ticket price was R99. I saw Alita 3D at Eastgate for more than R150 including the glasses and the experience was great.

I am seeing a trend here. Cheap theatres have poor lighting. This is done deliberately. The reason is not to spend a lot of money on electricity.
 
IIRC VHS PAL 576p NTSC 480p - at that resolution the movie must have sucked

For ster kinekor 3d movies all look crap. Its only the Imax that still has decent picture quality
 
They (and NuMetro) often display the movies slightly out of focus. I only go for IMAX these days. They seem to be consistently good.
 
Or it could be incompetence happening at select theatres that SK HQ is not aware of?
 
Sterland still exists? Damn. That's where we watched Toy Story way back in '95. Haven't been back there since

Last time I flicked there was the star trek reruns, now that were awesome and of course up and until their ice rink was closed.

It is where I watched Halloween in 1978. It is no longer in a safe area so I cannot go back there anymore.
 
I remember even in the 90s Sterland already had a bad reputation.
