Stick with the specialists

So my mates and I had a convo. this morning about where to next with mobile SP's

In short we've decided that everyone is schit...based on really bad service...and really bad reception from the younger players. We decided that with everything in life....even if you have to pay a bit more...it's just safer to stick with the specialists...VODACOM....MTN being a distant second.

Been with Cell C for one year...and it's the absolute worse experience I've ever had...no matter what they say...they just don't have a decent connection standard. Isn't that the very least you would expect from a mobile SP? Connection?
(Understandably...remote areas...signal loss goes with the territory).
And don't try to buy me with "great deals/packages".

Telkom Mobile will not see me either...they're in the same boat as CC. MTN...been there done that for over 15 years.

Does this make sense or do you disagree?
 
I agree. I know they're more expensive, but I have had very, very few issues with them. I'd much rather pay more than to stand a chance of having issues.

Same thing with almost everything else of mine. Discovery medical aid for instance is not the cheapest by a long shot but their service is excellent.
 
What an off topic discussion. Anyway, to stick with the professionals means there's no market for the smaller companies. You can gladly go back to the time before Cell C entered the market and started to offer us cheaper prices. You poor little keyboard warriors you. :sick:

I don't see the point you're trying to make. Why must I, the customer, give a flying squat...about other companies' market share? I'm an individual...I want the stuff I pay for to work.....If you can't make your product work, what's the point?

Having said that, I realise young mobile SPs need to grow...it takes time etc etc. - I just don't care, I'm still paying for crap

R2.80 / minute calls, 0.80c sms, R2 / MB data. Yes!!!!
We don't need the smaller companies, because everything is better with Vodacom and Mtn.
 
As you post this I'm considering moving to Telkom Mobile.

I'll never ever touch Vodacom.
 
People need to learn to speak for themselves.

TM is superlative to VC and MTN where I'm @, and considerably better pricing wise.

Also on Afrihost Mobile. (MTN better reception to Vodacom also).

I live in a Cape Town suburb....I have issues with calls at the most unbelievable times....even if the call rate was 20c/min..it serves me no good.

He says in a very defensive post. While casting the first personal insult in a thread. On the internet.

I'm happy to support the little guy, if they offer a good service. Judging by the mountain of complaints about Cell C on the forum they aren't.

As I said before, I personally prefer to pay more, knowing the chances of me having issues are lower. It's just not worth the time, effort and frustration.

So, you're going to stick with the specialists....and get your shiny new full HD smartphone from them.

Then, you want to show your buddies the new American Sniper HD trailer at work, when you realize that your Smart XXXXL only comes with 400 MB data, which will be depleted after showing your buddies the trailer.

A smartphone without a proper data bundle, is like a Ferrari with a two liter tank, which means that you will never be able to enjoy it the way it was meant to. What does it help you if you have super dooper LTE, which will deplete your data bundle in less than three minutes? Why buy a smartphone then at all?

But at least you'll get a TopDog voucher. :D

Why would I pay for mobile data in a world of WiFi?
 
Replay, you have been unfriended. Between all the SP's in this country, the only one I have written off entirely is Vodascum. They shall never see another cent from me in future due to various factors that I don't have the energy to explain once more.

More than happy with my TM contract, and have absolutely zero issues with signal or disconnects anywhere.

I'm not sure which is worse, that people can feel this passionately about a cellular network. Or that they can feel this passionately about virtual friendships.
 
The original statement was more of a sarcastic addition to the post just by the way. Definitely no "passion" involved in it

And I don't agree, I think feeling strong dislike towards a company is warranted when it has effectively robbed thousands of rands from you and family (and the nation in general) while providing the bare minimum level of service and actively taking steps to shortchange the consumer etc. One can say similar things of all the networks to some degree I'm sure, but I've not seen anyone else I know nearly lose a house or have to go without food due to them repeatedly hammering people with multiple cancellation charges with legal threats etc.

Your experience can only be yours...

I live in the middle of Sandton and MTN has 1 bar of network in my flat. In my previous flat, Vodacom had no network at all while Cell C is the only one having good network in both.

My main number is on Cell C (which roams to Vodacom on rural areas) and I have a backup phone with a MTN card in case I'm in a very rural area. Guess what, I've never felt the urge of changing.

Only from my experience, your general rule as to "stick with the specialist" is proven wrong.

By the way, funny enough but my MTN card is a prepaid and nobody has the number (not even work or my GF), I still receive in average 15 to 20 commercial and scam calls per week. On my Cell C sim that I have since 4 years, none of this.

Lol calling Vodacom specialists? What LOW standards do we set in this country.
 
Agreed, been with Vodacom for around 15 years and in that time I've had very little issues with them.

Just listening and talking to people in the office reaffirms how far ahead they are in most areas with their network, yes Cell C/TM/MTN might have better coverage in a specific area but overall VC is miles ahead.

At my previous company they installed an antenna with distribution points throughout their new office for free because I reported bad signal.

Do the other providers also give free wifi at shopping malls and airports?
 
I'd hardly call VC and MTN the "specialists" - you clearly have an odd understanding of the term. If anything the nature of large operators is that they aren't specialists

I once dealt with the specialists over at Vodacom's Blackberry unit before Blackberry moved into the hearts of teenagers and boy were they ****ing clueless.
