stiff clutch - what to do?

Good day

My renault clio was giving problems with the clutch a few weeks back, it was making a 'creaking' noise when pressing/releasing it and it was very stiff.

I took it in and they put in a new clutch kit. The noise is gone and it's much smoother, but sometimes the clutch still gets stiff, it becomes very hard to control it properly in slow moving traffic for eg. it doesn't move fluidly.

Any advice?

Have the same problem with my Clio RS and the "creaking" noise is back as well. Maybe find out of they replaced the clutch cable as well when they did the kit, as they didn't do mine, afaik.
The cable is about R700 at Renault.

I am currently looking at selling my car, so I am not gonna waste R700 on the cable...
 
Did they actually check the bushing on the pedal? Those bushes become dry and then creak as they seize up.
Did they replace the entire clutch, including the concentric bearing?

AFAIK they didn't check that. From what I do know is they definitely put in a new clutch plate and pressure plate (right words?) and skimmed the flywheel. more than that I'm not sure.

Thanks for the tip I'll ask them to check that out.

The clutch cable was replace about a year ago so not at the same time as the clutch. I dunno if I should replace it again, is it possible that a worn clutch can wear out a cable quicker?

And yeah... I'm also considering selling this car if I can't fix this. It's been giving clutch problems for years and I've actually got a pain in my left knee from all the hard pushing :(
 
The clutch cable is usually not affected by the clutch.

However, I agree with your consideration to sell.. I've had many cases like yours with French cars, not so much with clutch but other problems abound.
 
Oh I forgot to mention that when I drive the car just after it's been standing over night and it's still cold then the clutch is perfect. I hope that helps with the diagnosis...

I'll try taking my car to the mechanic this afternoon and see what he says.

At the moment I don't have a large sum of cash to trade in my car for something decent.

Lucky you. Maybe you need some transmission fluid?
 
If I do sell my car what cars should I be looking at in the R40000 - R50000 range that are reliable especially with regards to the clutch :)

How are the 2007 yaris t1 cars?
 
Well, if your clutch is really stiff I guess you could yank on it a couple of times until it shoots out excess liquid.. You'll know it's real if your car shudders..

The T1 is the 1litre enjin and I can't believe that you found one for R40k - R50k...?
 
Like previously mentioned, it could be the bush on the pedal. it happened to me before. also I have also replaced my clutch, but after driving it hard or over long distances the clutch starts to soften up. what brand of clutch did they replaced with?

My car is a toyota corolla, i replaced with a SACHS clutch kit.

apparently the "official" renault clutch is the filleto (i have no idea how it's spelt), but there wasn't any stock at the place the mechanic buys so he got a luk (again, I dunno how to spell it).

I can't explain it... one moment I'm driving and the clutch starts to get stiff has a kind of "grinding" feel to it (no noise though), then the next moment, it's gone and it's fine again. sometimes I can even hear a feint 'click' sound near the pedals or somewhere there about.

I probably sound like a crazy person but yeah, that is what is happening. next week I'm gonna take the car back and replace the clutch cable and also the engine mounts depending on how much that costs.

BTW, new CPA says that they can't sell anything voetstoots anymore, well I don't know about private sales...
