Ok i have now spoken to the call centre people around 40-50 times. i have only had neoconnet prime unlimited for a month.

Had my device swapped out, due to device error.
got the new device and things were looking up, however torrents and apps like skype where absolutely crawling....
torrents less than 1kb/s and skype couldnt make calls, only chat.

I called the call centre and asked for my ports to be opened on the new device, they called me yesterday morning to say all ports are now open.
Last night i logged on anxiously to see the performance.....only to be horrified ! my ping went from a steady 485 to 999 and dl speeds dropped from 850 to 98.

Should i call it a day with neotel ???
Whats the cost of cancelling the contract ?

Last time I checked cost of cancelling would be: 23 (remaining months on your contract) x R80 (cost of the device) = R1840

On the bright side you get to keep the device which, although now useless, makes a great doorstop or chewtoy for your dog.
 
That is so disappointing, and to think I was actually considering them for my internet.

Same here. Neotel did something in December '08 which has royally stuffed them up. My reception and speeds were excellent until just before Christmas. Since then, I've considered cancelling several times, but there aren't many affordable internet options out there for people wanting 30+ GB/month (international) data usage.
 
I'm getting my device swapped out tomorrow. I wonder what horrors await me afterwards!

I will keep my fingers crossed.

I've been looking at the locations of forumites who are experiencing the EVDO to 1X problem and, with the exception of matrixweb, we are all in the same general area:

Orin76 (me) - Sandton
B2048 - Sandton
Verushen - Midrand
BHT - Midrand

Is it possible we might be using the same tower or group of towers?

Edit: Cancel the tower idea. I just remembered that I tried my previous device in the Ekhuruleni area and the problem was still present.

ok guys im now 99% sure that the problems happens when you request the ports opened , i requested the ports to be opened 2x on 2 different devices and the problem occured now im on my 3rd device and did not open the ports and its working perfect , i think theres a problem with there system and it occurs when the ports are opened , maybe the neotel rep can confirm this?
