Dear All

My Kia Picanto 1.1 LX had been losing coolant and my mechanic looked at it and said that the head gasket is going. He sent it to the engineer and they said that the Head is cracked. My temporary and cheapest solution for a few months is something called stitching. i only need this car to run until December this year - so another 9 months.

I was wondering if anyone had done stitching on the Head of their car and approximately how many months it will last?

Thanks

Thought this was about medical stitches on your head.

Stitching, provided it's done by a decent engineering firm, should be 100%

Literally anything from the block to the head can be stitched, and should last as long as a new one.

Listen to Fazda. He knows cars.

You also need to establish the cause of the head's cracking ... a cracked head is pretty extreme ...

Not necessarily extreme, but it can happen if you have blown your head gasket, as in this case, and allowed the car to overheat.

Stitching will be fine.

If it is done correctly, should last forever, but if done poorly, it would just crack again next to the repairs.
Just make sure you get a 6 month workmanship warrenty.

Okay thanks guys.
I had the crankshaft redone on this car by Kia in July 2011 and my mechanic noticed now that there was no thermostat or fitting on my car. So I was driving without a thermostat.
