Hey guys

My sisters house got broken into a couple days ago while she was at work. One of the things that the thieves took were her spare keys for her suzuki swift. Pretty alarming, they know where the car will be, it's just a matter of time IMO, so what can be done? It's one of those keys that are the keyless entry and start if that makes any difference

Thanks

get a new set.

what the dealer will do is reprogram the remaining key with a new one. That will render the other set useless, as all keys must be present during programming. It is done that way for your safety.

Tomorrow would be a good time if she has time. As the keys were stolen she should in theory be able to claim the costs from insurance.

Same thing happened to me. Spare keys to both cars were in a small safe. Car insurance paid for two new sets of keys, ignition locks, door locks, petrol cap lock and reprogramming for both cars. Cost was about R15k for both cars and excess only R500 for each car. Get it done asap.

I had the dealer reprogram the key I had left first while they imported new keys and locking mechanisms.

Are you sure car insurance will pay? I suppose it is in their best interest to get this done however, so it makes sense

Home insurance (dial direct) refused to pay for anything relating to the car even though the spare keys were stolen from inside the house. Car insurance (MiWay) paid out within a week. They understood that it was in their interest as it would cost them more if the car is stolen.

Yeah definitely makes sense. Thanks for the help. Did they come back to steal your car btw?

It's annoying when they steal your spare keys. My car has one key because the ****ers stole my spare. I just had it recoded and decided not to change locks. The spare will still open the door but won't start it obviously.

They never returned.

Upgraded my alarm by adding outside beams and a six stand electric fence around the whole property so don't know if they tried to come back.
