Stolen license plates

Hoping you guys can help, a friend of mine has been summonsed to court for offences caused by someone that has cloned his license plate. What steps does he have to follow?, as the date of the court appearance conflicts with when one of his end year exams and he will not be able to appear.

If he has proof such as if the photographs in the fine clearly show a vehicle that is not the same make and model as the vehicle registered for the licence plate, then he can approach the public prosecutor at the court mentioned in the summons before the court date and try to sort it out.

I think a court case probably trumps an exam as something that has to be attended. But at the very least he should approach the clerk of the court with proof of his exam and ask for the court date to be changed.

But what if the thief has the same car (colour and model) as you and then steals your plates, how can you prove that?

Then you're pretty screwed unless you can produce other information like tracking data if you have a tracker, or other proof that your vehicle couldn't possibly be one in the photo.

Different cars, car reported on the fine is a red Toyota Corolla, buddy's car is a silver i20. The tickets issued is for not producing license, two weeks apart from the same officer.

A ticket for not producing a licence is issued directly to a person though, not to the vehicle. The traffic officer would have written the person's details on the ticket including the person's ID number.

Yeah, you're gonna have to explain how this offence led to your "friend" being hauled into court.

No license might mean no ID on him so he gave a fake ID number and they're now coming after the registered owner?

Possible. Either way, a quick trip down to the public prosecutors office with the registration document of the vehicle and the infringement notice or summons should sort it out. As soon as the prosecutor sees that the vehicle mentioned in the ticket and the vehicle on registration document are not the same vehicle the case will be thrown out before it even reaches court.
