Stolen Speed Stick

As if I needed a reminder of why I left Joburg, my hire car was smashed into yesterday in the Rosebank Zone parking, and my laptop bag stolen. Fortunately, I didn't have my laptop in the bag, but I did have my speed-stick in there. There was a witness: The thieves were driving a white Merc and the registration number was taken down. They also had starring roles on the security footage.

So now, back home, I phoned 084 140 to block the SIM, giving the reference on original speedstick box. There is an IMEI and a serial number, but neither of these, it seems, meant anything to the support person. My ID number and detail confirmation didn't help either. The suggestion being that I go to my nearest Cell C store and MAYBE they can help me. Okay, I said.

Except when I look on the Cell C website for the stores, the nearest one is 150km away. So the SIM, Rica'd in my name is in the hands of crooks, and I can't do anything about it (short of a 4 hour round trip for a MAYBE).

I'm filled with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

How do I block the SIM, since I don't know the cell number? It has only ever been used for data. Any ideas?

Well I gave up trying to cancel a stolen CellC sim over the phone. Now today after I got the SIM Swap, I see that I could have canceled the SIM online with their portal. So if you registered for the portal, its only a 2 minute job, if not, well next time remember to do so.

Contact the MyBB CellC rep - he has been most excellent this week sorting out my SIM Swap.

I put a PIN code on my cellc SIM.

Whoever get hold of it cannot use the SIM. Only the USB dongle.

PITA, but you never know.

So what's the point of RICA? They can't even help to block it... typical waste of time.

I remember my sim card got stolen with my phone last month with vodacom - I reported the phone stolen immediately to vodacom but when I wanted to do a sim swop they wanted to verify from the owner but without known the last 5 digits I dialed off hand they managed to do the sim swop - Just what I am very disappointed when I supplied them witht he IMEI number 1 digit they couldn't pick up on their system the LAST number which to me is very strange.

I am sure CELL C are able to track that CELL C SIM with your identity number / if you still have the box supply them with those details and go to your local police station and draw an affadivt just to protect your arse in case the law enforcement comes looking for u :p
