As if I needed a reminder of why I left Joburg, my hire car was smashed into yesterday in the Rosebank Zone parking, and my laptop bag stolen. Fortunately, I didn't have my laptop in the bag, but I did have my speed-stick in there. There was a witness: The thieves were driving a white Merc and the registration number was taken down. They also had starring roles on the security footage.
So now, back home, I phoned 084 140 to block the SIM, giving the reference on original speedstick box. There is an IMEI and a serial number, but neither of these, it seems, meant anything to the support person. My ID number and detail confirmation didn't help either. The suggestion being that I go to my nearest Cell C store and MAYBE they can help me. Okay, I said.
Except when I look on the Cell C website for the stores, the nearest one is 150km away. So the SIM, Rica'd in my name is in the hands of crooks, and I can't do anything about it (short of a 4 hour round trip for a MAYBE).
I'm filled with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
How do I block the SIM, since I don't know the cell number? It has only ever been used for data. Any ideas?
