I don’t know if you guys have noticed that a normal bar-one costs more than 6 rand at Pick&Pay, Checkers, Clicks, etc. (the chocolate is getting smaller and the price just goes higher)

Stop buying these overpriced chocolates, it’s crazy.

Kit Kat Chunky:

SA R5.69

Damn the cheaper local prices.

I used to get my dad to send over Hershey Bars from the US but since I can get them here in PE for less than he can get them and post them over it doesnt make sense anymore. The still unavailable Reese's Peanut butter cups are a different matter though!

I don't think chocolate's are over priced. Problem in this country is we think everything sold is over-priced.

There is nothing cheap in SA but if you talk to people who come over here from countries like the UK and AUS they are blown away by how cheap our food is.

If you come from the UK with your pounds, it's x 15 rand for 1 pound, so everything would seem a lot cheaper for you. The amount of money you earn over there and the cost of living is more reasonable.

For example you can buy a second hand car for about 5000 pounds and you earn about 2000 pounds a month, you can easily pay for that car in a year. In SA it would take you 5 years to pay of a second hand car.

I was talking about food stuffs, our cars are crazy in terms of pricing no doubt but food in this country is really not as expensive as people make it out to be. Nothing to do with the conversion our food is pretty compared to some countries regardless if you have rand, dolla's, pounds etc.

Out of interest do you smoke, go out for dinner often or drink?

Thank you for bringing to our attention this urgent matter. Chocolates costing R3 or R4 more than at pick and pay is def "current affairs" material. What a complete outrage. God damn chocolate syndicates!

That is proof enough that they ARE overpriced locally. Also the price goes up and down so often, it's hard to keep track. Last week they were around R7, now near R10.

I don't smoke and I don't drink. I got out for dinner maybe once a month. But I do eat take aways more than once a week.

I went to dinner the other week at the Waterfront with my wife and a friend of hers. For the three of us it was R1000, that was basically a meal each with desert.

Yes, that is another place where they rip us off. Same goes with coke cans, now 330ml and it costs more than 5 rand.

I love chocolates , but with the increase during the last few Month
I stopped buying. You can't compare the prices direct from Euro or Pound.
People earn more. In Germany food prices have fallen since Jan 2009 by more
then 20%, and they say no end in sight. They are now scared of deflation.
But not here P&P or Checkers. Prices are still on the increase. We are not
affected by the Financial Crisis seems to be true.

Ask anybody over about thirty about tea. Used to have flavour, nowadays only has a big price but verry little taste.
Ask a smoker thats used to smoke before the days of the warnings of packs, all brands tasted better.
Everything is about cutting costs to make more profit to get the rich to compete with the richer

I've had them. Overpriced (to me), but goooood. From Sweets from Heaven. Disclaimer: I don't live in PE... Most things are obtainable in Sandton and surrounds.

South African car prices are stupid. Used even more stupid than new. But that GBP2000 goes quickly. Just tax and rent will take a huge chunk out of it. You can rent a nice house in South Africa for what a little one bedroom flat will cost in the UK.
