I have to nuke this 4 meg adsl line ( highest speed my area can get) and go to LTE . There are just soooo many packages out there , and sooo many different types of routers and each seems to be a bit of a problem .

For example , webafrica offers a LTE router on one of there packages ... but even after 2 years it is not yours ..

YOUR PREMIUM, WIRELESS LTE ROUTER
We stock a number of high-end LTE routers. The router you receive is based on availability.
The router remains the property of Webafrica, which is good for you because it means it is fully insured.
If anything goes wrong - send it back and we’ll replace it.
You will receive one of the following routers:

Which is good and bad , after 2 years paying for it , i want it to be mine :) . But if it breaks after two years , then i r b fuqt. These packages also run on the Telkom LTE network , i am not sure if that is good or bad ... Then if you have a look at telkom you get
Huawei B535-932 LTE/LTE-A WiFi Router , not sure if that is good or bad or if it will work with RAIN .....

I miss the old days when you had ADSL and just adsl routers with Wifi .... This is too confusing !!!!!

Are there deals out there that are worth looking at with decent routers that can be used in conjunction with RAIN ? Sorry but MTN was always a bit meh for me , but maybe there **** has improved ...

Totally random question i have a gimpy
Vodafone R206 3G Mobile WiFi Hotspot ... thing

That is 3g and it says top speeds are 21 mbps , that is fine , i am on 4 meg adsl . Just to put my mind at ease , could i out the rain sim in it , connect it to a random laptop , which is connected to my LAN and then run internet connection sharing on all other LAN devices to use it to connect to the interwebz ? Even 21 mbps is better than my 4 meg speeds wise. Unfortunately my ADSL router does not have a usb port on it :(

Thanks folks

SMH. not sure if i should respond to this or just shake my head and move along.

Why not respond if you can offer reliable advice?
The fact that he does not understand the basics put me off. Do not have time to explain to him theoretical speeds versus practical real world achievable ones.. etc....

Rain is 4G/LTE only, and then of course the 5G package. It will definitely not run on a 3G only device.

Just get Fibre.

I will go through that much cap in one day just watching Netflix in 4K.

The big thing is changing the APN. Usually to internet or something like that. Most routers are unlocked but many dont know how to change the APN (simple setting). As the APN can be specific to a provider.

If you arent using much data then LTE is fine, but well with more speed is more data, then no thanks. I would give LTE a skip.

i have gone through 1.8tb on rain in one mnoth downloading games. i also stream netflix on 4k trust me, you will not top 1.6tb that easily.

Fibre is not available in my area , and wont be for a long time ... My adsl cant go any higher than 4 meg . I have always used ADSL , i have never had the chance to get or use Fibre , so LTE and totally foreign to me . Thanks . Now which LTE deal is worth taking where i can get a Rain compliant router free that i can keep after 2 years ?

This guy is only asking for advice for something he is unfamiliar with. Not everyone is tech savvy and can understand how LTE works by reading a few things.

It will depend on the coverage in your area. MTN fixed LTE is quite good (not my own experience) but I am not sure if the router they give with the package will work on Rain. You can maybe buy your own router for the LTE, like the B525 or B618.
Telkom is good when it works. And I believe the router you can receive from webafrica will work on rain (correct me if I am wrong)
