Hi guys,

Seeing as the last day of the month falls on a Sunday, debit orders go through on this Friday. My money won’t be in by Friday.

I have opted to stop the debit orders to avoid it from bouncing. Would that affect my credit score if I make manual payments before the due dates? I’m freaking out over here because we want to buy a house soon!

Strange, I only have one that always goes off before the 1st, and that's Virgin Active.

I don't understand why people don't schedule it for the 1st anyway.

All my debit orders for Sunday will go Monday or Tuesday, never earlier. Why do you think it will go off Friday?

I know some companies you adjust their billing cycle to compensate for this and just slap on tracking.

Because I got an sms to say that it will. I need to change it to go off later then. Didn’t even think this far. I know it was a dumb move. In fact, all of my debit orders are scheduled for the 28th. Don’t ask me why ‍♀️

Debit orders suck. I have two, both insurance-related, and I hope never to have another. The whole concept is long past due for extinction. I reckon it would be a decent marketing device for a (new?) bank to advertise "no such thing as a debit order with us".

Insurance companies must have owned banks back in the day, in terms of their power to demand "features" that suited their bottom line. Even tax payments (supposedly the ultimate debt) we still get to load (or at least approve) manually.

I know ! It sucks. I’ll pay my debt on time but this notion of 1 bounced debit order ruins your credit record blows my mind

Get to know your bank debit order system.

With FNB, internal FNB accounts goes off still on a Saturday. On a Sunday, no processing, which will move to the next working day (that night).

And PLAN ahead ... dont leave it for minute 99

I'm sorry if you are playing this close to the edge I wouldn't recommend buying a house. Seriously a house is a black hole so many unforeseen expenses. If you have the money which you should move the money from savings etc into the account no problem. I would honestly reconsider buying a house soon if you don't have the money to cover this. I do apologise if this sounds harsh but you don't want to buy a house if you don't have excess funds.
