Hi there

I am considering the Netgear Sc 101 for our small business.

http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=61_292&products_id=7967

I have seen several review of the machine, most were OK. At the same time i see lots of users bitching about problems with this unit.

We have 4 current users, this probably grow to 8. Here is what I am thinking. Get sc101, install two 400gb Seagate drives. Create partions on the drive for each user(each has a HDD with about 20 gigs full, so make each partition 30gigs). Each users drive is now mirrored to the 400 gb drive and that entire drive is then mirrored on the second drive. Then theirs another common partition that hence forth all users will draw files to and from. Another pass word protected partition where other data is stored for selected users.

All of the above seems possible with this unit.

Potential problems that I come across.

1 the data on the drives is apperntly encrypted in some propriatry format. Thus if the unit fails/lightning and you cant replace it your stuffed.

2 The unit supports IDE only. IDE is on its way out so you might not get a replacement drive in 3 years time if the unit crashes.

3. It seems to be a network hog/slow

This raises the question.

Is there a unit on the market similar to this that does the same thing using a SATA interface and a gigabit lan connection/faster and non propriety encryption?

Cost is an issue here. The Sc101 goes for approx R1000. We are a small business thus cant spend 5000 upwards to get a solution.Help!!

Please excuse errors and omisions. Non IT literate person here.

Yeah for +- R550 its not too bad. I see on the net some people have had issues with them but most seem to be solved once the latest firmware is loaded.
