Hi everyone,

I am happy to report that this morning my old Vodacom cell number was successfully ported to my 24Gb prepaid Cell C promtional data SIM.

It wasn't a simple or painless experience, but it is possible. I was really impressed with the customer service experience in general, because this was a non-standard request on my part and they could have just said it is not possible, but they tried to help and eventually they figured out how to do it.

The store that helped me was Cell C in East Gate, so they should know now how to do it.

Regards,
Gadnex

glad you got it sorted mate....Its really great to use data on your phone without worrying about the cost...
the ony issue I have is, on my phone book it use to show my sim number .......now it says can not read from SIM on my xperia x10 ....any ideas?

I use a Samsung Galaxy S, but I am not sure where in Android to look for or configure my sim number. If you point me in the right direction i will try it on my phone.

To check if it shows your sim card number , go to settings, about phone and status.

I checked mine and the value for Phone number says Unknown, so I guess it is the same as your problem.

Perhaps this is something that Cell C can do from their end.

I googled a bit and found that some other types of phones are able to edit SIM information, but android cannot. I tried changing my phone number using my friend's blackberry, which has the option, but it could not save the new value. I will try with my old Sony Ericsson W850i and if that doesn't work, I will try an iPhone as well.
