I have options on both a week old Blackberry Storm (R4200) and a new Xperia (R4800). I don't "need" a new handset, but am always tempted by a good deal. Which would you chose ?

LoL pope24 kinda makes sense there :p

What do you have at the moment?
What are your needs?
Constant texting and e-mailing - then the Storm may hurt you, with all of the "on-screen" typing.
Xperia is very powerful and nimble, but WinMo is not for everyone.
I've got an Omnia and am quite happy with WinMo.

But I'm not a heavy user.

If you want surf the web and check e-mail for gratis and unlimited, then Storm may be what you're looking for.
Perhaps see if you could get hold of a BB Bold as an option for the Storm.

I'm sure there must be a few threads around here of Storm owners - there certainly is for the X1 okes.
I know that v3g has the Storm and was loving it the last time I read :)

All depends on what you have, I mean if you have a win 6 mobile phone then dont waste your time with the xperia. Never seen the storm, but not a fan of BB.

I would say save your cash in these times of need ;)

I must have the communication capacity of a brick... here i thought the question "Which one would you choose?" was plain and simple, and would get straight answers, like, I'd take the Bold because bla bla bla...

Anyway, now I'm digressing myself. I have since found out that the X1 is imported, so thats a NO. And I don't like the idea of a phone - because thats what it is to me - without buttons.

You should all be delighted then that I'm buying neither ;)

See, like a brick....

No dude, in this instance, imported means not locally bought.

pope has a good point haha.

Anyway, Im a crackberry addict. I got the storm a few months ago. Its bloody great if you really NEED a blackberry for its features. Make sure to get off the default OS .78 though, it s a piece of steamy feaces.
I am running on .113 and having nothing but joy :)

/me hugs his Storm

@mbvdl. the storm doesnt have an fm radio. can you listen to steaming audio???

Yes you can listen to streaming audio on the Storm or any Blackberry. I use Mobiola xplayer on my Bold to listen to streaming overseas radio with ZERO data charge. Plus you can download MP3s with no data charge. Plus you can use vuclip to download streaming video onto your Blackberry.

Youtube works fine on mine.
Youtube application for BB is now available.
Just one thing, if you get the Storm, consider it a nice "hack" phone too.
Im on .113 now, everything before this gives it a bad reputation. .122 is out too, but haven't upgraded yet :)

Hmmm, i thought this was not possible, or at least that you couldnt check out youtube using the free internet feature.

That MAY be true
I dont think abusive streaming is covered in BIS, and this is fair. (BIS isnt really "free" but ja)
I have a small data bundle bolt on to my package, to "catch" all BIS exceptions.
Youtube will probably not be covered, but I load movies on to my phones, I dont really care to sit and watch youtube. Number one cause of neck problems is watching movies on pdas :D

If you are concerned about Youtube not using BIS on your Storm then go to vuclip.com. It plays Youtube and Metacafe videos and yes, streaming video through BIS :-) Awesome!
The Bolt browser beta for Blackberry can also play youtube videos off the youtube site. It encodes them to 3GP and works well but video length is limited. Nothing beats a Blackberry IMO :-)
