I'm specifically talking about tainted grail: conquest. During the EA all character classes was unlocked, then they changed that to die 2x then it's unlocked. Now you have to spent between 3-8 hours before you can get to the class you actually want to play with. Seeing this is a rouge lite and enemies gets progressively harder you unlock more damage dealing classes to help you out with this difficulty progression. Well that is my assumption as to why they would now story-gate their classes to extend game play, right?
Which brings to my initial observation: why not have all of the classes unlocked from the get go so that you can make up your own mind which class you want to use when.
If this is such a problem, then is balance? poor class design? poor enemy design? ...?
It makes of think of the following scenario:
before you can use a gun you must use the knife for at least 30 minutes >
before you can use a shotgun you must use the gun for at least 30 minutes >
before you can use a rifle you must use the shotgun for at least 30 minutes >
...and so on.
I did ask the above and of course was told that this is the nature of unlocking games and/or rouge lite games. Ok so perhaps so but each subsequent (new) run you start you literally have to go through that '3-8' hours of unlocking. This originally why I thought geez at least have all the classes unlocked and hopefully that isn't the thing in the game that create drive to play more. If this is not possible then perhaps games should come with a sandbox mode or wtf.
Anyhow it is a hard pass title until such a time I can just pick the class I really want to play with and then go through the motions as it originally was before they story gated their content.
Thoughts?
