If I can put gas indoors, then probably it's better. How safe is gas indoors?
Gas is cheaper and the heat is instantaneous
We went gas about 3 or 4 weeks back.
R7k total cost for a 5 plate hob (whirlpool), 48kg bottle, installation and certification.
Not only is it cheaper, but you can still cook when Eskom do their load shedding carp or the municipality fails you with poor maintenance.
Aiming at getting the stove done next.
EDIT: Stove = Oven![]()
Trust me, don't..
Gas Ovens are shyte... stay with an electric Oven.
I've got a Smeg gas hob/electric oven combo and I love it. We've also got a portable gas weber for when the power is out so I'm happy to forgo the gas oven.

We used the gas braai and one of those sunbeam pizza ovens for nearly a year while we were waiting to get our kitchen done.Would have loved a smeg. They not cheap though.
+1 on the gas braai. We got one for those quickie braai s and ended up using it the most.
Price wasn't too bad at the time. That is the ultimate appliance, expensive but awesome.
Are you sure you're not confusing Smeg and Eurogas?Smeg Smegma. The ultimate in overpriced bottom of the range appliance marketing. Blindfolded the average person wouldn't be able to tell a Bosch burner from a Smeg.
So a smeg or Bosch oven and stove in one will be better then just the stove g
bwana;10662009 Are you sure you're not confusing Smeg and Eurogas??[/QUOTE said:No. I use Eurogas just because the price was right second hand- but that's also an Italian bottom range gas top electric oven.- Same Quality as Smeg, same as the Italian Glem gas. There's a lot of Middle to bottom end Italian stuff badged as "high end " in SA ...Ariston for example which is owned by Indesit and ILVE. The latter two you don't see much of anymore in this market.
Smeg appliances are bottom of the range of the Bertazzoni lines. Then you think the Italians are taking over the world with their brands. Candy is the latest import- Candy Group is an Italian privately owned company (the Fumagalli family). In a nutshell very little differentiates all these companies average Joe gas tops and electric ovens except price
These compete head to head with the German lines like Bosch.
They are nothing super special.
Super special is stoves 70K upwards. (I've seen R91K french stoves) which do just about everything except dish up your food and wipe the rim of your plate.
