I have a Netgear DGN2200v4 ADSL modem/router.

The problem I'm about to described was previously experience (firstly periodically and later permanently) using D-Link hardware as well.

My modem works 100% (firmware is up to date)
Internet works 100% over LAN
WiFi signal works, but there is no internet connectivity.
Some devices are not able to join the WiFi network
No amount of rebooting the router, resetting the port or rebooting PCs, phones and tables restores connectivity.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause this behaviour

Sounds faulty to me.

Did anything change after a firmware update?
Or was it always acting like this?

I had a similar issue with a previous D-Link. The supplier could not find fault, although it would not work at my home on my line. This suggests that the issue is not with the modem.

Firmware update was done a few months ago. The problems only started recently.

Could this be something at the exchange or even ISP?

Some routers deal with certain lines better than others, because of the modem chip.

But this wouldn't cause wifi issues likes you are having..

edit: For interest sake, is your DHCP when you connect to the wifi giving you the right default gateway?

Yes, it does.I was advised to play with my WiFi settings (I assume channel and possibly B/G/N/Auto etc). I'll start some trials tonight

Changed the WiFi channel from "Auto" to "6"

So far so good
