I have a chronos ADSL router (Alcatel Chipset), it does not work on the line at home. But when i take this ADSL router into the office it work fine on the adsl network. I had telkom out twice, they install their marconi router tested the line and it work fine on their equipment. So i have now ruled out the line and the equipment. But still i do not know why this device is not working at home.

I called telkom ADSL helpdesk and asked why this could be happening. This ADSL support specialist told me that my equipment is faulty. I tires to explain that it is working in another office but not in this office. He again said that the equipment is faulty and that it is not ICASA approved. I asked to speak to a ADSL engineer, he said that he is a engineer as well, he has MCSE,CCIE,RTF... went on and on. clearly a indication to me that this ASSH*LE does not know what he is doing. I eventualy put the phone down on this prick.

Is there anybody that can shed some light on this, I am now more curious that anything else.

I've encountered something similar where a Netgear 834 would not work properly at the office, but worked fine at home and at the supplier's office. The only thing that helped at the office was putting in a Netgear model 814.

Something is different at the office, but the Telkom techies although helpfull could not explain it.

Your only way out may be to try a different brand of modem.

The problem is tel*** not your hardware

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

Hi Guys.

This problem is definitly on the telkom adsl network. I installed a Dlink adsl router and it is working. the chronos router is only working in the office not at home. The Dlink work in the office and at home.

Something is wrong, I spoke to another ADSL specialist, he does not know of anythink like this, they will send out another technician to do some more tests.

how bizaar, I am not too clued up on this but ask telkom it the exchages are the same. to me that is where the problem lies.

There is no peace without war!!!

I have spoken to a ADSL specialist (Poepol) at the helpdesk. He assured me that all exchanges has the same infrastructure, and that the problem is on my equipment.
As i indicated, this guy is a "POEPOL" (ASSH*LE). This rude arrogant bastard claim that he knows everything off adsl, but could not tell me over what frequency ADSL is operating... I suspect the ADSL link that i have.

Hmmm, I have heard a very diffrent story. Recently I bought a SMC USB Adapter for my server and no matter what I tried I could not get the thing to work. Even went so far as contacting SMC in Europe and having them send me new software and a firmware update. I seems that a few people here in Durban have had the same problem but in Capetown and certain areas of JHB the device works perfectly. Everything pointed to an exernal problem. I then phoned Telkom to ask about the problem and was told that not all exchanges were the same and that some devices might be incompatible with the exchanges in certain areas. The SMC was returned and a Mustek device was bought - and set up in 3min flat!

not all exchanges have the same DSLAM's [port you plug into] and some DSLAMS are not compatible with some hardware ...

request what DSLAM you pluged into CISCO/Redback and if they could plug you into a different port ... or else you demand a refund and cancel the line [serious paper work some telkom lackiie would rather avoid] it is not good enough to talk to a helldesk monkey ...

besides all this diferent racks have different firmware i promise you all adsl lines are not equal.

It could be your lightning protection devices?
Are you using phone lightning protection equipment or power surge protection
Try by pass this.

Lightning protection can introduce faulty harmonics that knock out the ADSL connection

ADSL is dog slow during the day ... telkom 'prioritizes' the bandwith to the larger paying customers

We are Telkom - Resistance is Futile - You will be Assimilated
