A friend of mine has a Hauwei phone.

Recently it was giving odd problems with constant rebooting.
I tried to soft resets & 2 factory resets - problem remained.
She took it to Huawei at Canal Walk - they tried resets, problem remained.
Turned out to be a battery issue. Battery was replaced and phone is good.

She uses a couple of banking apps (discovery, nedbank & standard)
All the bank accounts are linked to her payshap ID.
She has been using the banking apps for a long time, as well as payshap.

So with all the resets, she had to re-install the banking apps.
They are all good - with the exception of Standard Bank. She is unable to send funds using payshap (to any bank), however the standard bank app throws up error messages when trying to pay / send money using payshap.

I have tried "clearing data" & "clearing cache" prior to uninstalling standard bank, then reinstalling.
The payshap problem related to the standard bank app remaing.

So in short, we have transferred money back and forth between us via payshap on multiple banks - but her standard bank app fails.

When choosing to make a payment, one has to enter the recipients payshap id.
Then one taps "verify". Its at this point things fail - no matter the recipents bank / payshap id verify always fails - suggesting an issue with the payshap id entered. Then a red banner appears at the bottom of the screen stating "payshap not found, please try again".

Standard bank has no idea as to how to resolve this

How the heck could they not know? Did your friend just deal with one consultant, who in turn said "eish".

Sounds like they didn't try hard enough.

Some phones are just incompatible with apps

There is an apartment complex that uses GRemote to operate the pedestrian gate. The receiver was changed from a 3G model to a 4G model as 3G is soon to be switched off

No OPPO phones tried will work with this new system. They report "Off-line" all the time. The agents, Centurion Security maintain their unit was tested and works

I took an OPPO A78 and an Oppo A98 phone to their workshop and set up the app. All worked well until a signal to operate the GRemote was sent. The the phones reported "Off-line"

A shrug from them. Once its sold, they have minimal interest

OPPO is a Chinese brand, let Centurion recode the word Centurion to Centulion, should work now.

she went into a branch - who were only able to confirm all details etc were correct.
std told her they would "escalate" the matter to their technical people, who deal with online / mobile banking.

no word from them yet

in this instance its the same phone that she has been using for 2 years - including the banking apps.
the version of the app on the phone (prior to factory reset) & the currently installed version as the same.
this also applies to the phone's os versions.

interestingly, a full backup of the phone was done prior to the factory reset.
that same backup was restored and that was when the problem first emerged.
subsequent to that, the phone has been reset to factory and fresh installs done of the banking apps.

i cant help but wonder if the factory / hard reset, really does delete everything - i tend to think there is some old residual file lurking about that is causing this problem

Exactly this. Factory reset does not wipe your phone properly. I had a similar issue long ago with a Google account that a password was lost for....no resets could get rid of it.

There is another way of REALLY wiping everything, but for the love of me I cannot remember it now.

Should be on Google somewhere.

Maybe start here?

Sounds like a government institution, perhaps with marginally better customer service. Maybe.

Yes, I'm engaging in some hyperbole :p
Should at least be kept in the loop wrt her query.

thanks - will do more searching

i figured I'd try to take a look at the file directory structure on the phone, to figure out where all the standard bank data files are scattered.
the "x-plore" app revealed quite a bit.

my theory is to restart the phone into safe mode, go digging and remove anything standard / stanbic related.
thereafter, uninstall the standard bank app.
then restart normally.

Is he using a custom ROM?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered, I didn't read the whole thread.

problem resolved
**standard bank (online banking technical support) still has not called her yet !

installed an app called sd-maid.
its an uninstaller that also removes "corpse" files.

then, went to apps / standard bank
1) force stop
2) storage
3) clear cache
4) clear data
then closed apps

opened sd-maid
uninstall standard bank + corpse files

reboot
install standard bank

all working properly

previously also went to apps / force stop / clear cache / clear data / uninstall.
clearly the android os still left files behind, despite both clear cache & clear data.
sd-maid found the leftover files & removed them.
