Strange Disconnection Problem (Maybe Vista?)

I know this is going to sound strange, but I am now flabbergasted and I have no idea where to turn to further.

I have used my iBurst modem without a problem up until now.

Used it on Windows XP, Windows Vista, with the Dashboard, without the Dashboard, with the Antenna, without the Antenna, it always works.

So currently, I'm using it on Vista SP1 32-bit, without the dashboard, without the antenna, connecting via USB.

Currently, I have a problem with the modem... switching off? As in, powering down.

The third status light (the orange one) goes off. Connection just drops. You cannot reconnect until you remove the USB cable and put it back in.

I've tried turning off the option for "Allow Windows to turn off this device to save power" under Device Manager for the iBurst Terminal. Not helping.

This happens while I'm playing DotA, surfing, downloading. In other words, it always happens.

Second reason why I believe it could be something Windows related... it always seems to happen... just about an hour after a connection.

I've checked the "Never" option under disconnect, etc, etc, etc.

What else could it be?!?

Didn't have these problems on my XP computer...

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I do have a Lenovo T500 laptop... laptops and power saving settings still confuse me a bit. I tried switching off as much as I could, but I could be missing something?

Solution?

I guess I haven't tried everything!

Today, I changed the connection from USB to ethernet.

So far, my gaming sessions and surfing sessions seem to be handling it all very well. No disconnections whatsoever.

So for those who might be having the same problem as I am, try using the Ethernet and not the USB.

Weird that it's the USB and not the Ethernet option...

...but USB as network option is not a good choice. Ethernet is the best as it was designed for that kind of traffic.

It can also be the USB drivers...

Let us know in two, three days' time whether you've had any strange disconnects with the Ethernet option.

That's why it's wise to purchase a router/modem with Ethernet and USB ports - as you'll have a fallback to another connectivity option should one prove to be too problematic.

That's the other thing...

I've never used the Ethernet option before, as I didn't have that problem on my XP computer. It's only very recently that I started using my iBurst for extended gaming sessions.

So one, I had already installed the USB drivers, and for some reason, on Vista, you cannot use the Ethernet port UNTIL you uninstall the drivers. Took me almost 2 hours to figure that one out.

But since I've been on the Ethernet, no problems. Had three DotA games in a row last night, no problem. It might also be my imagination, but it seems like it connects faster and my ping times seem slightly better.

In any case, I still suspect it was a power saving option somewhere on Vista. I suspect Vista would more easily switch off a USB connection than a network connection.

...doubt if it's Vista;

Go to: Control Panel, Power Options, select radio button - High Performance, click Change plan settings, click Change advanced power settings, click USB selective suspend setting and ensure that both options are disabled and save the settings.

Regards

Tried that

I'm actually a bit of a power-user in that regard, and I've set up my own power plan, exactly the way I want it.

The USB suspend settings is something that I've set not to change, whether I'm plugged in or running on battery.

Like I said, the modem, while running on USB, sometimes switched off WHILE I was busy doing things.

So I don't even know if it was Power Saving settings...

Still working good on Ethernet though. Had another bumper DotA session last night with no hassles!
