Hi All

The last few days I have been unable to access google.com or google.co.za for web searches or my Google calendar. Gmail works fine though. The some behaviour is noted on three different laptops and is consistent across Chrome, IE and Firefox.

I have no customized proxy, IP or DNS settings on any of the machines or my router.

When accessing these sites from my iPhone, using the exact same WiFi signal as the laptops, all works 100%

My ISP has cleared themselves of any wrongdoing. The did suggest clearing out the browser history and then "ipconfig /flushdns" and a restart, but this did not help.

Any ideas out there on how to solve this one?

fyi - If you install spybot search and destroy that comes with a large hosts file replacement to block lots of ads you don't need :p

Some more suggestions/ideas:

To confirm if it's DNS, does google.com below open?:
http://196.23.168.147

Did you do the manual DNS settings (post 2) on wireless connections (Windows, not router)?. Specify either the router as DNS address or something like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS).

Do you have the same problem with an Ethernet (cable) connection?

(you probably know all this^, but just checking)

This really baffling me. The worst is that I cannot search Google for a solution!!

I almost have a similar problem with 2 laptops at work. But Google works, afaik. News24.com is the one I cannot load. Ping works fine. Although when I run a tracert I barely get anything - as in I would expect a response from 10.0.0.2 and the next hops, but all I get is *

OK, so I guess I only rebooted to WiFi router before. Now after rebooting the ADSL modem/router as well all is back to normal.

tracert www.google.com still only goes as far as the modem though, second hop and more all time out

Thanks for all the help though. This what makes the MyBB forums a great community. You could have flamed me for not rebooting the router sooner, but you stuck with me and tried to find a solution. Again, thanks a bunch!!

:D

Pesky problem with a simple solution. I didn't even consider a router/modem restart because you've had this problem for days.:)

[-]Edit: still doesn't explain the iphone working. Maybe it used backup 3g/gprs?[/-] It's own DNS settings.
