Strange modem behaviour

I have a long story, but I'll keep to the highlights:

I use Afrihost as ISP, uncapped 2Mb plus line rental.
My old Tenda modem works perfectly except that the WiFi speed is too slow for streaming video around the house.

I bought a D-Link 2750U to address speed and signal strength issues. It takes forever to get connected (ADSL sync is quick, but getting IP from ISP takes time). The "internet light" sometimes blinks a lot in stead of being steady. I will then lose wifi connection to my devices even though all lights on the modem indicate a healthy connection. Or some devices would simply refuse to connect to the modem at all. Modem has been swapped, firmware updated, supplier and D-Link cannot find fault with the modem. I finally got them to credit me so I bought a Netgear DGN2200-100PES yesterday.

I'm experiencing the exact same issues as with the D-Link.

Going back to the Tenda, all is fine.

In summary:
My ADSL line appears to be fine as speed is normal
Old modems work fine
New modems have issue (at my house)

Where to from here?

I had the exact same issues as your having. Eventually I purchased a Dovado router, haven't looked back!

It seems there is some or other problem at the exchange. The Telkom techie is still scratching his head.
