Strange new Eskom invoice line items

Eskom just finding new ways to keep paying their inflated salary and bonuses for the next few years.

This is my previous months bill. It's an estimate. I dont even use R250 or so a month in power as I have solar and batteries. Still they charge me interest. Any below is the current bill.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I pay more in service charges than I do for electricity. I am an Eskom direct customer.
I think at this rate its best to go completely off grid as I have gas cooktop. Worst case scenario put in a gas oven.

Who needs EWC when it is becoming more like renting the property that you bought with the hyperinflation of property rates and taxes? It is extreme socialism, Eskom turning a blind eye to electricity theft, writes off the debt of poor non-paying municipalities, while hyperinflating the costs of those that pay full price.

Also in the South Coast. Here's me:

And here I am crying over my measly R500+ bill. At what they are charging you, it would be better to have gas cooking, gas or some other form of water heating outside of warm weather if you have solar. Invest in solar and batteries.

I've now had a look at the first invoice with these line items spanning the entire period.

On homepower standard at least, they appeared to have done away with the 600 kWh tier threshold and more than made up for it with these nonsensical items.

Some places are diffrent i also get a legacy charge of R0.23 per unit 20250607_102101.jpg

Deat ChatGpt,

I need to bundle my charges to client into a flat rate as I can no longer rely on user consumption of my product to generate revenue. Come up with some fancy invoice line items to confuse and befuddle while ensuring a tidy profit no matter what the customer does.

Sure, no problem!

1.) Ancilliary Service Charge...
2.) Generator Capacity Charge...
3.) Administration Charge...
4.)...

Fixed charges started with the DA in the Cape. I can`t remember if the fixed sewerage or the water pipe levy came first. The pipe levy came in 2016 I think - to make up for income losses from less water consumption during the drought. 9 Years later and people are still paying the drought pipe levy. People still raved about how great the DA is, so this very successful concept of milking the cashcows more has now become more prevalent. The indigent areas pay no fixed charges at all. Every year the indigent areas get better subsidized benefits. This is how SA`s socialist government is making us all equal......ly poor.

The only thing I disagree with is your fate. The pipe levy started in 2018
