Strange per-GB prices on mobile data packages

Do Cell-C still have the 3GB 365-day bundle? It used to cost the same as the 30-day bundle.
 
The operators will always charge a premium for the market "sweetspot" - two years ago 2 Gigs was what the general mobile data user consumed, now it is 3 Gigs - expect this type of pricing to shift outward as demand increases
 
Its an old psychological trick to get you to take a larger product even tho you dont need to, coming from 2Gb and looking at 3Gb you will notice that 5GB is actually more cheaper, and go with that.

Cinemas use to do the same thing with popcorn a few years ago...

Afrihost: R48/Gb for 3GB, and 10cents /MB out of band? Why do people still buy their data from their cellular provider?

Looks like a similar /Gb rate with axxess.

I don't see any spike on the 3Gb package with CellC - look at the list below (this is on a contract package where I have the option to purchase additional data bundles) :

On CellC we have (for example) :

  • 25Mb @ R8
  • 50Mb @ R13 (cheaper than 2x 8Mb)
  • 100Mb @ R25 (cheaper than 2x 50Mb)
  • 300Mb @ R60 (cheaper than 3x 100Mb)
  • 500Mb @ R90 (cheaper than 2x 300Mb)
  • 1Gb @ R149 (cheaper than 2x 500Mb, 3x 300Mb or even 10x 100Mb) :)
  • 2Gb @ R245 (cheaper than 2x 1Gb)
  • [highlight]3Gb @ R299 (cheaper than 2x 2Gb)[/highlight]
  • 5Gb @ R399 (cheaper... and cheaper... and cheaper still)

How did they calculate the cost per MB in the article graphs? :confused:

This is surprising how exactly? Noticed this years ago it's the exact same with ADSL as well.
