This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

I was browsing then suddenly my connection just dies, the PPPoE is active, but nothing gets transfered, no email, nothing.

When I reboot the router it's fine again. I thought someone might be trying to hack my router, since I saw a hack attempt in it 2 weeks ago, but it doesn't show anything.

I'm stumped on this one, what could be the problem?

I switched over to www.opendns.com servers just now and I'll have to see if it stays connected and active.

O yeah, I switched to WebAfrica prepaid as well, almost forgot, this could be a Telkomsa issue?

I saw your thread yesterday, but how many times did you need to reboot? I rebooted 3 times and then I said stuff it, switched DNS servers and to Webafrica,

How do you know when someone attempts to hack your router?

How do you get your router to do that?

I have a Mega 100WR..

It has to be an option in the router, I use a Billion 7300M, I don't know the Mega routers, you'll have to search for it ;)

It's in my security log on the router and the router sends me an email.

Thats quite cool, but when does it count as a hacking? is it a brute force attack or is it when ever someone attempts to connect to the router?

Every now and then I see someone resolves an IP from my router, but I always assume it is by accident.

(sorry for derailing the thread a bit)

I'm not sure to be quite honest. The router log says "hacking attempt" and gives the IP details etc.

It's based on the firewall strength I suppose, a hardware firewall is still the best line of defence however. I think if you didn't configure access through the internet then it should tell you if someone attempted it, I haven't "tested" it yet, lol , don't know how to either ;)

Dont think it's hacking.

I have the same problem and seen it on a couple of other computers, it's a virus that crashes the Generic Host Controller in Windows. Your PPPoE connection is still "connected" but no data will be transferred.

A reboot is the only way to fix it. Not sure how to correct the error, except by doing a repair on the windows installation?

I doubt it's a virus. I have Nod32 installed which I think is the best and this happened on 2 pc's on the network, main pc and a laptop connected wirelessly. I appreciate your input however, it wouldn't hurt doing thorough virus and spyware checks from other security suites ;)
