Stream content over WiFi network without ADSL

Hi there,

Not sure if this has been asked but struggling to find answers. Basically I am moving to a new place and for the first couple of months I am not going to have ADSL at home. So what I want to know is it still possible to setup a WiFi network so that I can stream media from my iMac to my Apple TV ect over local WiFi network as I have been doing (but wthout ADSL obviously) or is this not possible? All the content I will stream is content I have available locally on my PC.

If you have a wi-fi router plugged in you can still set up a wireless network and stream content from it. Your streaming won't use internet in any case.

Thanks cerebus. Thats what I thought but just wanted to make sure incase it couldnt then I would need to make another plan. Yeah I have a Belkin N150 wireless router which I am going to use. So if I connect it like normal and connect the apple TV and my iMac to the network I will be able to stream my content like normal minus connecting to the internet?

Just for info, what do you use for streaming? Just iTunes and iTunes content or did your jailbreak the Apple TV and use Plex or something?

I have Jailbroken the apple TV and installed XBMC but dont use it that often. I mainly use iTunes to stream the content to the apple TV. Would I need internet connection if I wanted to stream content from my iMac to apple TV using XBMC or Plex? Also use AirVideo wich allows me to watch any movie type on the iphone and then with airplay stream it to my apple tv so basically turn my iPhone into a tv guide / remote / selector of sorts and works amazingly well.

You won't need an internet connect for streaming within your house. Its only needed for remote streaming when you are away from home.

I'm planning to buy an AppleTV and would like to know if someone has used Plex on it. I use Plex to stream content from my home server to my macbook pro, iPad, windows media center. The reason I ask specifically about the AppleTV is because Plex is not officially supported on it and i'm not too fond of the jail breaking idea.

I use Air Video to stream, the free version currently until I can get the full one. Works perfectly.

If you want to install anything at all on the Apple TV you are going to have to Jailbreak it, apple doesnt allow for 3rd party apps to be installed on it. Honestly the Jailbreak is flawless and painless and is even better when you purchase and install aTVBlack. Here is a link to read up more about it aTV Black . Thats what I use and havent had any problems with it and there support is great. Let me know if you have any other questions.
