I've recently upgraded to ADSL. The problem is that i can no longer connect to streaming audio station through Winamp, Real pleayer etc. Where as I use to be able through a standard 56k modem.Someone told me that this is because Telkom blocks the high end user port or something like that. Is this true or was the installation botched up.

Is it not working at all or very slow ?

Telkom apparently controls network usage via network shaping, this is basically giving priority to certain ports over other other ports. HTTP , FTP and e-mail have got the highest priority in this system so during business hours the amount of HTTP , FTP and e-mail traffic cause applications that use other ports to be very slow - not sure if this applie to streaming audio though.

Advice:

1: Try again after say 6pm , theres less HTTP,FTP and e-mail traffic and other applications work better.

2: Try conecting to a local radio website like www.ecr.co.za and test your audio streaming ability there.

Hope it helps.
