Hey everyone
Wasn't quite sure where to post this so any direction would be appreciated.
I'm looking for somewhere where I can watch SABC and ETV over the internet. Reason being is that I'm living in the UK for a bit, but still want to keep up to date with the happenings in good old SA. The news here is so freaking boring. I've never seen people go on about Obama's new dog and Jordans new boobs so much.....jees, bring me a cash in transit heist already.

I also wanna catch up on my Super14 and cricket scores...

Any ideas?

Cheers.

What is your budget?

Have had some success with Adobe Live Encoder and Flash Media Streaming server.

But would need the following:
1) Static IP to stream -512Kbps, 3GB ADSL, R500 p/m (you only want news at 6/7 so should be enough)
2) Decent video capture card (Hauppage PVR-150 MCE, PVR-500) - R900

If this is not too much I can provide the service say for R300 p/m ;)

Bit much if you just want SABC / etv news... but that is the price of good ol SA "edutainment"...

With a few more SA "sympatisers" in the UK contributing, the price will come down ;)

PS - currently using 3G, so not really an option. Static ADSL will be required (PM perhaps and might be some cheaper options from a friend)

Lol! It's definitely an option. A bit painful, but it should work Let me find a job first and I'll think about it. R300-00 pm is barely ÂŁ22-00 so its not too bad really.

I'm sure I'm not the only one either....how awesome would it be to be able to watch ALL the super 14 games with afrikaans commentary :) All it would take is an output from a dualview decoder dedicated to Supersport. I'm english speaking, but the afrikaans commentators are the shiznit!

Ok, thanks for the info man, wish me luck for my interview tomorrow ;)

No Afrikaans commentary, but you do know that Sky Sports show most of the Super14, either Saturday night or Sunday, it's highlights for some matches and longer extended highlights for others.

LOL

I never would have thought there would be international demand for SABC :)

Given there is a demand, I'm surprised they aren't doing it on a pay-per-view basis or with ads or something. ETV at least should.

Weird, works perfectly from London, mind you I have a 20Mb line though

He means it doesn't work through a local only account.

Bring sparks here make local access a lot cheaper than international.

So we enjoy content that's on our local network much more because it hardly costs us.]

So it will work for us on 4Mbit lines or whatever bit rate is required.. just we pay more for that international access obviously.
