What router are you using? Had an almost identical issue with a DLink wifi ADSL router. Can't remember the model this moment but can check if you also use one. Think my issue was the other way around but after much haggling with their support teams, finally got an unreleased firmware that fixed it.

netgear dgn 2200, finally got it working, kept turning off windows firewall and not nod 32 :o

Cool stuff, my problem was actually on the router, something about the DLNA protocol between the two interfaces (wired and wireless).

can you fast forward HD content? Both the using a wired connection SD ff fine but cant FF HD over wired very well

I can FFwd HD files as long as PS3 media server isn't also doing on the fly conversion/transcoding, then it battles

would it be doing this with mkv files? im using cat5e cables and a 10/100mbps switch is this ok?

nah, mkv's it generally has problems going at more the 1.5x speed, but for example I have a 6GB file that I converted from mkv to mpg & that can FFwd 120x simply because its not encoding it at the same time

what program you recommend to convert? any loss in quality? does the actual size of the file increase/decrease?

I use MKV2VOB, quality seems identical to me. Just make sure you choose to keep the DTS soundtrack, I remember having to tick a setting to keep it
The size stays around the same, just tested it with a 1.13GB mkv file, converted it to 1.19GB mpg in about 30 seconds
