You have to be clear on the TELKOM router model. There are a few doing the rounds. You can either stream the movie via a wireless WiFi conection or ethernet cable. I use media player and it works fine!

For what it's worth - I use TVersity for streaming to my PS3 and Xbox.

Note that if it is a HD movie then streaming wirelessly is going to suck cause of the bitrate being way higher than what you'll be able to achieve via the wi-fi connection. (just assuming it is HD from the file size).

HD streams fine from my Netgear wireless to PS3.

i like ps3 media server becuase it will transcode/play just about anything

Downloaded it before but never tried it as MP works so well. Will give it a go.

PS: I see the lastest version also supports DTS. Tried it?

yeah, works great.
you can also browse zip archives, play iso files, .vob files etc.
Another cool thing is that you can access all your volumes, not just preset folders, and it updates directories automatically.

Great, just installed it but it wants me to get up and switch on my PS3, but its to cold now! Will do it later.

It's the Telkom Mega 100WR router, and yes it is a HD movie, it's a .mkv file so I suppose PS3 media server would be the best option, I've tried streaming movies with WMP, PS3 saw the files ,could not play them, the TV screen just went black, I left it for a while but still nothing, does anyone have advice, plugging the PS3 into the PC via ethernet being my last option.

Thank you for the quick replies.

Ps3 media server will transcode the mkv file no problem. The only hiccups could be if you have a slow pc, trandscoding might struggle.
You'll also need a strong wifi signal or playback will stutter. My pc is over 50m from my ps3 so I had to use an ethernet cable which works flawlessly.

I also use PS3 media player. Thumbs up to DarKWateR for the recommendation. With WMP, you cannot stream things from removable storage medium. Also ps3 upscaling is quite good on normal movies.
