Hey people of the internet, I've recently moved out of my parents place to my own place and I was wondering what is the most affordable ISP to stream (it doesn't have to be hd or 720p but 720p would be cool though.)

I've tried to do some research but there are negative and positive reviews of nearly every single isp out there, so if anyone has any advice it would greatly be appreciated.

Side note - My parents have a 7mb line, it has 0.4 upload. 0.4 up is to slow to stream so I'm a little worried that to get -+ 1-2 mb up, I would have to get a 20mb line, and that seems to be out of my price range.

p.s I stay in Durban, and cost is an issue.

Thanks

Outta luck buddy. You might be lucky if you get 1.2 upload with a 20meg line. Our 40meg line at the office has a upload of about 1.7.

yea streaming is almost a no go in south africa unless fibre

I'm with Afrihost, have absolutely no problems streaming Netflix every evening on an Afrihost capped account.

You honoured. I complain every week to Afrihost and am at the point of cancelling - tired of promises and excuses.

I think OP is stream to twitch, not watching streams on twitch.

@OP unless you are on fibre or LTE, you are out of luck.

Thanks to whom responded, so seeing as I cant really get what I would like, what would be the better choice of isp's to go with?

So I know I would like uncapped, and I'm willing to send a maximum of -+ r800, the rest I'm not to sure on.

I've mainly looked into mweb and telkom as I know they've been around for awhile but honestly I'm ignorant about isp's. Do I get a 4mb premium line or a 6mb normal line? The terms on conditions don't really state much about "fair usage", when do they throttle you? I guess a phone call could clear things up but mainly what isp should I aim for as I don't want to get stuck into a contract with a problematic company that won't deliver on what I pay for.

First of all avoid getting mweb if you plan on streaming or anything like that, they have a FUP which only checks usage of the last 30 days and if that is over x amount which is allowed you'll have speeds of 56Kbps, if you opt for premium the FUP is 400 odd gig for the 30 day rolling period, Telkom is okay depending on the package you go with, just make sure you know what the softcap is on your telkom line otherwise same story as you will get throttled to 56Kbps a second until month end, they reset it once a month

Currently I'm with crystalweb on a 4Mbps Premium Home account and I've had zero issues related to ISP, never been throttled or shaped or anything funny, so determine what you need and choose a package according to that, make sure you know an estimate of how much you use a month as this will obviously play a role in which package you use

Depends on your monthly usage. If you use 150GBs a month get 6Meg standard. If you need more data get 4Meg premium.
