Anyone know where this stupid piece of software gets installed to?

Have to use it to open our companies bank statements but the files it uses were not associated to it after it was installed. So now when trying to associate the file types to this program I cannot locate it anywhere.

Reinstalling doesn't help.

I know this is really old but this stupid piece of software is still a pain in many an admin's backside

So I actually phoned their "tech support" to try to find this out. Apparently they can't tell you where the app gets installed to because, and here's the kicker, its a patented secret. So I investigated myself and found this:

Striata does NOt install any executable to your computer, instead it install a DLL resource file(C:\Windows\keymail.dll) to your Windows directory. This DLL is then executed by the rundll32.exe windows executable
It also creates a few registry keys which is where the magic happens

So if are having trouble even after reinstalling, uninstall completely. Delete the striata and .emc registry keys (or use a registry cleaner, Ccleaner seems to do the job) and reinstall

That's an interesting way of admitting they have NAFC. :D

Hey Guys,

Apologies for struggles you have had so far. I work at Striata and can hopefully provide the right help, and also clarify any misconceptions:

@FoXtroT:

This is an issue we have experienced before and have mitigated in the latest version of the reader. If you wouldn't mind sending me a direct email I would be happy to send you the latest install file. Alternatively the latest version should be updated on our website within the next 2 weeks.

@BootlessAgent:

WRT to the support call you referred to: the answer you received is very strange. It is certainly not a "a patented secret". Did you talk to a Striata support agent directly or was it a support agent from one of our customers. Either way if you could recall then name of the person I'd like to follow up and ensure that it does not happen again. A direct email would be appreciated: brenth@striata.com.

WRT the software being old, hopefully I can clarify any misconceptions. The Striata reader is actively maintained and extended by our dev team across most platforms (Win, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Mac, iOS, Android). It allows our clients to push confidential documents to their customers without the risk of your information being stolen or amended in transit. There are other methods by which this data can be provided but the alternatives tend to compromise on convenience, security or user experience. If you have any suggestions that can help us improve our software or process, I'd appreciate the input and will ensure that it is well heard.

WRT your advice to FoXtroT, thanks, your suggestion is 100% correct. As mentioned in my response to FoXtroT the above should no longer be an issue in the latest version of the reader. We also re-establish the required file associations on a reinstall which should mitigate the correction steps that you have suggested (if ever required).

@dunkyd

Please can you provide more information on the issue you have experienced? We have a large Mac user-base and a very competent Mac support team. I am confident we can resolve any issues you might have experienced. Please email me directly if you'd prefer: brenth@striata.com
