Everyone has their limits, my friend. Awesome as I am, I'm completely unable to bowl anywhere near the stumps when playing cricket - for example. Other people have to reconcile themselves to the fact that a garbageman or railway worker is going to be the limit of their career. That is no reason to exploit them and if striking is the only weapon they have, they must use it.

Everyone has their limits, my friend. Awesome as I am, I'm completely unable to bowl anywhere near the stumps when playing cricket - for example. I also doubt anyone would take me seriously if I threatened to quit my job and go work at the LHC. Other people have to reconcile themselves to the fact that a garbageman or railway worker is going to be the limit of their career. That is no reason to exploit them and if striking is the only weapon they have, they must use it.

Come on, you can not be this naive. Do you really think these people have tried everything to better themselves and have now reached their limits?

I think that improving your skills takes time, money and talent. And no, I don't honestly believe that every single striker has all three of those things at his disposal.

It would be nice if the unions actually had the welfare of their members at heart, and it would be nice if strikers actually adhered to the rules of strike action (*peaceful* protest, chaps. Do it *peacefully*). But, if people feel the need to strike, they must strike, and I'm sure you agree with that.

No I do not. If you believe that your skills is worth more than your current employee pays you then you should go and work for somebody who will pay you more for your skills. That is how a free market should work.

It should, but it doesn't, especially when you have state-funded monopolies in the equation. grayston's earlier question remains - if a train driver doesn't want to drive trains for Transnet, what are his options?

Damn good excuse if you don't have the time or money to invest in your own education. It's interesting to note that many of the strikers are primary breadwinners and simply not in a position where they can leave their families to fend for themselves for 4 years while they go off and get a degree in financial management. It's a rather romantic idea to believe that anyone can do anything if they just put their minds to it.

Have you ever heard about distance learning, but I'm sure you will find an excuse why it can not work. You will always find an excuse if you do not want to and sit back and blame everybody else except your self.
