Last time the students damaged quite a few cars on the property, yet we're still told to hang tight.

Students we're sent home for their own safety!

Now they send in riot police in our building for "protection".

I have had it with striking and rioting in this country. I've had it with the sense of "entitlement" that people have.

You don't deserve anything that you didn't work for, and you have no right to destroy property to have your way and then expect someone else to rebuild whatever you've destroyed.

I've absolutely had it with that kind of attitude.

Well the lecrurers at Wits took a Thursday off to strike3 weeks ago, and are taking next Tuesday off too...

Kind of sucks for people with "legitimate" subjects like Science, Engineering and Maths that barely cope at the normal rate.

Found out the reason why they placed riot police in our building is because they are meeting with the SRC in our boardroom!

The strikes generally tend to get out of hand. Haven't had a "peaceful" protest in - well, never!

Oh ... the sad part is that I am starving. With the students striking outside, no one will deliver and I can't go buy food

My understanding of the UKZN strike is that students are striking for meal payments, safety at residences and maintenance of residences. Now imagine if you applied for financial aid, got approved, classes started (therefore you left home) July 25th and it is now August 23rd and you still don't have meal payments from financial aid. If I went hungry for a damn month I would also consider striking. Students are living in residences that have leaking roofs. Every time it rains students are collecting water in a bucket but they are paying for this. Rapes and robberies are occurring at residences because security is lacking. Certainly not the university experience I want either. It's a shame these students are causing havoc because every grievance they have is legitimate. These students don't win supporters though when they are damaging property. I hope nobody gets hurt. Some will have records to follow their life now that they've been arrested.
