Hey guys.

So a few days ago, I had my landline installed by Telkom and requested to activate the line for ADSL.
At this time, I was receiving a dial-tone from my telephone, so I know the line is working

After I received confirmation that my line was activated for ADSL. I then proceeded to install and configure
my router as required.

Problems encountered:

When I connected my router to my telephone line, the ADSL symbol on the router was flickering
rapidly.

I checked the status of my line through the browser interface, and it seems that it was trying to
'synchronize.'

At this point in time, I was also not receiving any dial-tone from the telephone.

I phoned Telkom to rectify the situation and they fixed the fault on the line.

All good..

I was now receiving a dial-tone from my telephone, but now when I tried re-connecting my router to
the telephone line, the ADSL symbol on the router did not light up at all.

Phoned Telkom's help line again, to help out, and it seems that everything was alright on there side.
Ports were reset, and the consultant said that I was receiving both ADSL and telephone signals on my line.

Followed the consultants instruction, to reconfigure the router, but the ADSL symbol still wouldn't light up.

Any one perhaps know what they problem might be?
What steps can I take from this point, to connect to the internet?

Thanks.

Presume you have installed the line filter required for use with the telephone?

If not temporarily disconnect the telephone from the line and see if the router will complete the set up process.

What is the condition of all other lights on the router?

Yep.

I have temporarily disconnected the telephone from the line and connected the router directly to the line.

The only lights that appears to be switched on is the 'power' symbol and one 'LAN' symbol (since I have connected my computer to my router using an ethernet cable.)

log a fault with Telkom, it seems like there is a fault with your adsl port. just make sure you have isolated the possibility of your modem being faulty as this will attract a charge if Telkom were to dispatch a tech only to find out that it's your faulty equipment that is causing the fault

VPI, VCI settings...they should be 8 and 35 if memory serves. (or other way round not sure).

Correct

Vpi 8
Cpi 35

Ok what modem there should be a dsl light and an internet light, Take a picture, If a telkom modem on default www.telkom.co.za will connect to the internet if syncronising.

so when you log into the router do you now get sync?

It possible Telkom have disabled the DSL port. They did it to me by mistake once

Hmm...thanks for the heads up.

Phoned Telkom's technical support, and they said they will check my ADSL port in the exchange (whatever that means)
.

it means they will check if your line is connected properly and synching at the exchange, as soon as that is taken care of setup will be a breeze, I think the time you called them to fix the dial tone they did something to your adsl part as you said at the time the modem was attempting to synch.

good luck.

Have you got a friend where you can test your router?

I agree. The best and easiest way would be if a friend brings his working(and configered) adsl router to your home and plug it into
the telephone socket to see if it picks up the adsl.
If not, then you know it is a line fault.
If yes, then you know the problem is with your router

It is all a process of elimination...........
