Struggling with unisa calculus

That's ridiculous. Being able to browse the internet thanks to protocols that rely on graph theory, proper encryption and memory management with algebra, being able to play 3D games using linear algebra, etc... All this relies on mathematics. Every single thing you work with everyday is the result of the major sciences: mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Viewing a .jpg, (good quality and small filesize) is the result of mathematics and probably months of research.

To simply dismiss the sciences because the only thing you do all day is punch numbers into a calculator - or lick stamps or something - is pathetic.

so by saying what you just said ...i gather that everything has been done and there would be no need for it in the future :p

Of course not. You know as well as I do that technology is advancing at a tremendous pace. We need the major sciences to understand every new step we take.
 
I just don't see the point in memorising all those formulas. :(

The last time I got a list of formulae was in high school.

You can always understand the theory behind them and deduce them yourself. :p
 
All algebra is abstract, as my lecturer used to say. Except parts of linear algebra, I suppose. He mocked us for the unnecessary use of "abstract", unless you specified linear.

For notation regarding derivatives, Newton's method is interesting.

Sure but I was referring to the difference between elementary (i.e. "traditional") algebra and abstract algebra, which deals more with structures and group theory.

Depends on your work. Apart from the everyday stuff that you use at work which is made possible as a result of mathematics, physics and engineering, some fields of work require you to have a mathematical background. You can't dump a bean counter into performing things like algorithmic trading or risk analysis. And that's not even taking into consideration that it's easier to teach somebody with a mathematical background to count beans or program, than it is to teach people from those backgrounds mathematics.
