I have a Galaxy S4 (i9515 black edition) from the UAE. Had it for a few months. It worked perfectly on MTN's 3G network, but recently it just stopped. If I set it to 3G only, it just says no network. Only works on 2G which is too slow. The sim is contract and works fine on my local S6. Isn't the S600 chipset supposed to work on all bands?

Anyway I have factory reset, done the updates etc. Still the same. Since it's still on Kitkat, I'm going to download a Lollipop rom but not the UAE version. Gonna try UK unbranded.

Anyone have any other ideas on how to get it to work on 3G again?

Your phone uses the same frequency as local devices. There isnt an issue from a hardware point of view.

I think you should flash a different firmware/rom via odin.

Yes that's what I'm gonna try. Thanks. I hope the UK version works. 2G is just pointless now.

I had the Indian Black Edition rom on mine before I lost it and it worked 100%. Just thought I'd give you confirmation of at least 1 rom which I know works. :)

Update: flashed UK rom. No issues. But still stuck with 2g. At least it's on Lollipop though.

Tried that. No signal at all. Just shows a circle with a line through it on the status bar.

That sim works fine on 3g when used in another phone. Seriously frustrating! Lol.

It's an i9515.

Insert a vodacom sim card into your phone and test the 3g signal. If you are still unable to use 3g then your phone is forked. Vodacom has a decent signal throughout the country so you will at least be able to take Mtn out of the equation.

If it is a hardware problem then it might be cheaper to get a separate sim for data and buy a cheap mifi device.

Good luck
