Student bank accounts

It seems I have to do some research... They all seem to have something decent on offer.

Out of interest, is it only nedbank that offer the credit/cheque card that can be used for online purchases?

Be careful of Cheque accounts - very expensive fees.

But on your question, all banks offer Credit Cards. With mobi banking picking up, you will no longer need a credit card for online transactions - you just use your mobi account (similar to Paypal).

Thats also not a bad option. Which pricing option do you use though as there are three possible ones? Namely, standard, rebate and easy fee.

It also offers a low limit credit card (which could come in handy)

You don't have the standard, rebate, and easy fee options because on the student account you don't get changed for transactions. Those fee options only apply for other account types.

I recently moved from Standard Bank to Capitec.

Standard Bank was charging me crazy fees for ATM withdrawls, using my card for debit purchases and internet banking.

I've had the absa student silver cheque account for a while. No problems, and low fees (I think R13 a month). I don't get charged for any transactions. Woop Woop!

Just a warning to all "student account" holders regardless of banks. As soon as you loose your student status then immediately look at your new fees.

A friend of mine is now paying R300 a month in bank fees with her "new" account after she lost her student status (BTW ABSA).
