As a working & studying man with easily sufficient income and good spending patterns... no. The only thing that matters is if you've been in debt before. If you haven't, tough luck, no contract for you. Been to Vodacom and Cell C plenty of times, surety makes no difference.

My friend who never had an account managed to get one from MTN, so maybe I should have a look at them.

I know edgars give you a clothing account if youre a student, and get a certain amount of money as allowance from your parents.
Your parents will just have to sign that they give you x amount.
Edgars sells cellphones, so maybe you could work out something

I'm a 19 year old student. Got it from Edgars + some clothes. But working now, so will try apply for a contract early next year. Tryn settle the debt, + I got a loan for R4500 as well, early next year should settle them all, and my credit record should be near excellent.

I would work part time, don't have parents to rely on. But I will be doing private tutoring, so can I show them a bank statement perhaps?

Yeah, they will make a plan, also the person whom signs your account up gets commision, so theyre always amped to do whatever they have to get you that account.
