Student Developers

Guess I'm too old, haven't really got started.
Thanks for the link, couldn't really figure out this certificate/workgroup thing (still don't fully grasp it), but I managed to register as a dev for free using my Unisa email, and managed to get something resembling a custom app on my Lumia 535.

Yup, as long as you're in university. This is not only for Comp Sci students, Information Systems/Informatics can also apply. In fact for the prizes, as long as you make those apps you can have the prizes.

Yeah, I know. The question was rhetoric - I was taking a jab at myself. Anyway, thanks for the link.

I know about Dreamspark. What are you trying to say?

You implied that bizspark is nice, but they wont use it due to time limitation. Dreamspark is the student alternative to bizspark which gives them time while at university to use all the tools.

I wasn't commenting on the availability of tools. I was commenting on the time limitation of BizSpark, which is what many student start-ups use as a primary means of support.

You are able to use the tools beyond the expiration date. You just pay a 100$ graduation fee and you get to keep your current licenses. My point remains, with dreamspark you get them within your academic career so the students can start working as they're learning and then upgrade or even register a new account with bizspark, at that point they would already have a decent idea up and running. Least that what's my mates did.

I think you're confused. DreamSpark and BizSpark offer different services to students. Why are we even talking about DreamSpark? Having a copy of Visual Studio doesn't help get your start-up on the web.

I think you are the confused one, BizSpark is for start ups, and it is not exclusive to students. Where dreamspark is primarily aimed at students. Futhermore the benefits and free services that come with bizspark help you to promote your products. And i never said having a copy of visual studio gets your start up on the web, what an asinine comment. I am part of the bizspark program i know very well what is offered and not.

I know BizSpark isn't just for students, but it is widely used by students. My comments from before this conversation were about students needing to be careful about when they start using BizSpark, because the program is worth a lot and they want to get as much utility from the 3 years as possible. Nothing to do with DreamSpark. We're talking about start-ups here.

When is this challenge ending. I think it will be in the middle of my exams.

Meh. Never mind you're right I'm wrong, you're missing the point entirely and it doesn't appear you seem to grasp it either.

Having access to Azure does, which you get with Dreamspark.
