Study Permits, Visa's and Service Provider!

In the year 2017, I will be attempting to send two of my offspring South of the Border to your country study, providing the students have not burnt everything to the ground.


FirstbornMoose will be applying to UCT and Stellies! I have warned her that things are changing rapidly in ZA and there are not enough places for locals, let alone foreigners, to which she informed me about some SADAC percentage.....

MiddlebornMoose wants to complete her last three years of High School at one of three Cape Town boarding Schools, claiming that being a clever lass, the teachers up here are not up to scratch!


Now, the tricky part.....

The English HO wants me to re apply for an SA Citizenship/passport.... in order for the girls to get their own when it becomes time to study.

I was born in SA, but renounced my citizenship to get my Namibian passport.....back in the hazy days....

Most Namibian parents apply for study permits to allow their kids to head south......

I am more in favour of this, as it seems a whole lot easier than trying to apply for citizenships for my kids.

Besides I see it is illegals to leave/enter SA on a foreign passport if you have a South African passport.

In Namibia, it is also illegal to have dual citizenship.....

So are we all in favour of staying Namibian and applying for study visa's?

I see that according to the DHA website, you now have to appear at the various office's to get the necessary paperwork, so I assume that there are no service providers that do this anymore?

For you to get your SA citizenship back I have no idea.

But I'm busy getting my SA citizenship through my mom and yes you(the moose and mini-mooses) have to personally go in to get the forms AND to apply. If you're organized you can do it in one trip but if anything is amiss you all have to go back in person.

The Home Affairs you go to also has to have a Citizenship department so you'll need to go to the nearest "Regional Office" NOT just any Home Affairs. You(Mr Moose) need a valid SA ID book or card, just the number or a passport isn't enough.

Citizenship has big advantages over Study Visa's, namely the opportunity to work and get bursaries.

Don't want the offspring bending any laws....... besides being from the previously advantaged group my FirstBornMoose will not stand a chance as a South African getting a seat in a varsity, better chance as a SADC student!

If your kids were born in Namibia, they can legally be dual citizens:

NAMIBIAN citizens by birth can hold dual citizenship.
This is the effect of an order that was given in the High Court in Windhoek yesterday.

The Namibian Citizenship Act's section 26, which states that no Namibian citizen may also be a citizen of a foreign country, does not apply to persons who hold Namibian citizenship by birth, it is declared in the order handed down by Judge Dave Smuts.
The order was given in the wake of a concession from Attorney General Albert Kawana in a case in which a born Namibian, Iris le Roux, was challenging the Citizenship Act's prohibition of dual citizenship.

In an affidavit filed with the High Court, Kawana conceded that the part of the Namibian Citizenship Act which prohibits dual citizenship does not apply to people who are Namibian citizens by birth.
Kawana noted that the Namibian Citizenship Act states that its prohibition of dual citizenship is subject to the provisions of the Act itself or 'any other law'. Namibia's Constitution would be included under 'any other law'.

'Since the Namibian Constitution does not authorize the deprivation of Namibian citizenship by birth on account of the acquisition of the citizenship of any other country, section 26 of the Act does not apply to Namibian citizens by birth,'

Kawana stated in the affidavit.
In terms of the Constitution, Namibian citizens by birth can only cease to be Namibian citizens if they voluntarily renounce their citizenship, Kawana also stated in the affidavit.

It could get complicated though. Were they born after you gave up your SA citizenship? Is your wife an SA citizen? That would also give them citizenship, but you would need to register their births.
