ST. JOHN’S, Nfld — Supporters of marijuana may finally have an excuse to smoke weed every day. A recent study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation suggests that smoking pot can make the brain grow.

Though most drugs inhibit the growth of new brain cells, injections of a synthetic cannibinoid have had the opposite effect in mice in a study performed at the University of Saskatchewan. Research on how drugs affect the brain has been critical to addiction treatment, particularly research on the hippocampus.

The hippocampus is an area of the brain essential to memory formation. It is unusual because it grows new neurons over a person’s lifetime. Researchers believe these new cells help to improve memory and fight depression and mood disorders.

Will be interesting to prove this - have any weed-smoker invented something really useful so far...

and by useful invention I don't mean the verimark / glomail stuff ;) :p :D

If tobacco smoking reduces the IQ (BBC documentary claim) then what does marijuana do????
Besides, a bigger brain does not necessarily mean a more intelligent person. (Women have smaller brains)

So, if you drive a Beemer, have a smoke and chat on your cellphone at the same time, does that leave you with an IQ of 0? :p :p :D :D

I saw a show last night on creativeness and the difference between smart people compared to creative peeps.

The one clever dude actually had a smaller brain the other guys. They think that his brain is processing things better and is more efficient, hence not so smart peeps have larger brains... :/

Ah you have to love researches who come up with these theories, makes me feel less guilty about puffing my days away :)
But obviously just smoking it is not gonna make you more clever, there is nothing stopping you from using your brain, even when stoned...
The steriotype stoner is unfortunately the guy who will sit and smoke himself into a stupor and only concentrate on the tv or something brainless. This doesnt have to be..
If you want you can do and think exactly the same as if you were sober - all depends on how you control your own mind. Keeping your brain active will solve alot of the so called problems that come from endulging in natures greatest herb.

While this strengthens my resolve, i can imagine this being similar to those crazy scientists who told us smoking my not be the cause of every diseases known to man, just trade the lab coats for a tie dye shirt

Funny right? ... Galileo ... he went against the thinking of his peers...

And with that most erudite post you were trying to elucidate on just what exactly?
Your body's internal fecal volume rising again?
I was referring to myself in that post. How you got to Galileo.. Please do enlighten me.

It won't be able to..

Its trying to make some arb point, and failing miserably like always...

On a serious note, if smoking weed makes us smarter.. then I better give my supplier a call

well there are those psychologists in the 60's who trialled LSD who found some interesting results, however due to CIA disasters testing and abusing LSD as well as the anti-war revolution of the time LSD was banned. A real contradiction. Banned for two reasons - it is not mind altering and it is mind altering. Interesting to note is many of the psychologists of the time personally still use LSD and all of them are hitting 70 and are perfectly functioning human beings. Also read up on Timothy Leary. Good book to read on the subject is: LSD my problem child, by Albert Hoffman the creator of LSD.

Psilocybe or magic mushrooms has recently been proven to do absolutely NO damage to the body or brain. Pretty much a natural version of LSD although effects last less.

Cannabis to me is probably the most profound hallucinogen purely because it is perceived as a gateway lesser drug where in my personal opinion it is the most powerful hallucinogen of the LOT. sure you may not have visual hallucinations, but yeah, i think some of the most profound experiences for me have occurred on this drug.

Unfortunately media and ignorance of the majority will always condemn these mind altering substances as evil and brain destroying when in fact alcohol and nicotine are more destructive to the body then the whole hallucinogenic family put together 10 times over.

My friend at school, doing a lot of weed at the time, never freaking studied for shyte and still passed with high marks  lol
