Hello ,

After starting on my websites this weekend I discovered that I have a real passion and ability for the this. How does one go about studying web admin part time in the quickest time as well?

Everything I know is from what i read online and on forums like this but I am not a very study type of person , I excel in a more experiment on the job environment. Its amazing the amount of things i learned this weekend from Youtube !!

Its crazy that at 38 years old I wanna start fresh but I am so excited and passionate that I just have to make this change.

Thanks for the advice from a really excited future web admin lol

You want to be a webmaster?

As a general rule, professional webmasters "must also be well-versed in Web transaction software, payment-processing software, and security software."[2]

...

Webmasters may be generalists with HTML expertise who manage most or all aspects of Web operations. Depending on the nature of the websites they manage, webmasters typically know scripting languages such as JavaScript, PHP and Perl. They may also be required to know how to configure web servers such as Apache HTTP Server (Apache) or Internet Information Services (IIS) and be a server administrator. Further, webmasters may also act as website designers on smaller-scale sites.[3]

Best way of learning is doing (in my opinion)

You're in for a steep learning curve, but it's worth it. Doubt any institution could teach you what you need to know out-of-the-box (most are point and click type schools)

For example, instead of CPanel or some other type of web panel software that makes a n00b think he has full control of everything, I forced myself to do everything by hand (Windows and Linux) which got me to understand the underlying concepts much better

Agreed with AcidRaZor

The best way to learn is by keep doing things yourself. Keep reading and looking up on advice when you struggle. You will learn a lot as time goes by, a lot more than joining a school or some place where they teach you. Your best knowledge will come from your own experience.

Having said that, I recommend that you start looking at the various types of coding languages available. All website design and development does not always revolve around WP, Joomla, etc. These are easy platforms to use when you have clients with easy requirements.

You will need to teach yourself at least some HTML, PHP, MySQL, etc. This will come in handy when you need to build more complex sites, or even need to make changes to things in wordpress, joomla and other platforms.

Before you know, you will be able to code websites, CMS's, etc all from scratch.

Thanks !! Been doing that for a few years now without really getting stuck into it , will get into it much more now.
