I've been supplied with an online management type script which i can't get to work. The support guys from the software company have asked me if my sevice provider has blocked port 19638...?!?

Can anyone help please - has telkom blocked this port, is it something that can be changed on the router-box-thingy or what?

i'm seriously stuck.

I'm running DSL 384 and have tested the port from home to a local machine at work - seems fine, so, locally it's not teklom - something on your router/firewall. R u running XP :: Check if firewall is running.

also make sure that if you are not having problems with the MTU Path Discovery some brain dead networks Nedbank/STD Bank/SAA/Sentech do not follow the rules ...

uhm.... how can i check/change this?

the strange thing with this problem is that i could access the admin script fine for a short while and now i can't get to it again...

any ideas why the problem is intermittent?

im not sure how to do this on windows i know there are posts on this forum with other info there is a proggie you will need to set your MTU say to 1450 (a safe figgure) on your PC

ok. the latest from the web hosting support people is that i have to "enable" some ports on the(/my?) network, namely 21, 22 & 19638...
<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">...the problems are all related to the port settings of the network you are on...<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
can someone please point me in the correct direction with regards to enabling ports...

many thanks in advance :)

buried - give us the info and we'll help you.
Windows + Version + DSL Router Manuf & Model + How you are connecting to DSL (dial up connection or router configured connection) + Anything else that could be significant.

You're asking us to tell you how fix a vehicle without telling us that its a motorcycle.

ok :)

i'm using a winXPhome box, macaroni pots router thingy and i think it's a router configg'd connection - the router is connected to an 8 port hub...

something interesting that i've noticed - right after the router is turned off and on again I can access the online CP for about 20 minutes... after that no luck again. If i flip the switch again i'll have access again.... the CP even tries to re-issue the SSL Cert, which doesn't happen once i "lose" the connection to the CP and try refreshing.

any ideas?

Damn.

Long shot - when it buggers up again, disable your network card and then re-enable it.

That will force all udp/tcp connections to close on your side, and hopefully the router will close the connections that it's holding for you as well. If this works, then the problem is client (Your) side. If this does not work, then the problem could still be at the router, or the destination.

Start -&gt; Control Panel -&gt; Network Connections -&gt; Righ click on the Network Card -&gt; Choose Disable -&gt; Wait 5 seconds -&gt; Right Click and Enable. Then run the script / software again.

I am hoping that your router is smart enough to pickup that you are not there anymore.

If this does work not work, then I theorise that the router is not handling TCP socket disconnections or interupptions properly - well - lets c what happens.
