Nope 3G, GPRS and EDGE are all R2MB even HSDPA 1.8Mbs, for 3.6 and 7.2Mbs theres an additional R50 base charge every month and then regular billing of R2MB

There is no 7.2 service... yet.

But I guess your first need to activate the 3.6 service before they charge you R50 pm?

There is in some parts, no advertising obviously because its not rolled out throughout the country.

Yip! Its a VAS service

charge extra for 3.5? dont they only charge for the 7,2mbs?

Nope, 3.6Mbs is rolled out in most parts of the country to use it you need to activate it.

Vodacom have said that all their 3G enabled towers are 3.6 enabled. The switch over from 3.6 to 7.2 is purely software. The problem is backhaul capacity. I know rpm had his profile set to 7.2 a while ago as a test, but I seriously doubt Vodacom is just switching this on where they have enough backhaul unless it is for internal testing. MTN might be a different story.

And when MTN have their 3.6 roll-out done, it will be interesting to see what happens.

As mentioned above Vodacom claim that all their 3G towers are 3.6 enabled. There may however be backhaul and contention issues for your particular tower so even if you are on a 3.6 profile you will not see the benefit.
