So the estate where I stay has this fingerprint gate open technology. Whaddaloadcrap! I need to reload my fingerprint every two weeks almost - it just "forgets" me. It seems to remember most people but is quick to discard my prints. When I go for a rescan, existing prints are available on the database but they are not mine. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? Is it a bad implementation or is there another reason why this would happen?

It happens with the cheap Chinese readers a lot. Most are not willing to pay for the ultra-expensive SAGEM stuff.
As with most Chinese stuff, the firmware is flaky at best hence why you're seeing this problem.

Something is messed up in the database then,You can try trace it by requesting a copy of your in and out scans and seeing on which dates it forgets you and build a history out of that, but that is the techies job not yours...

Perhaps a duplicate user ID on the biometric database.
Are there any other users having similar issues as yourself?

Instead of a re-scan could you request a new enrollment from scratch?

Bill the security company for your time that you spend sorting out their mess.

This would worry me a bit tbh. Crap tech is one thing...but are they sure that mystery set of prints is at least someone that should be on the database?

Thanks everyone for input so far. I am going to take a pic of the stupid console when next I go past it to figure out what brand it is.

Suprema is not cheap chinese junk. If its one reader the it could be a faulty unit, multiple unit failures could be a corrupted DB on the server side. Capacity on those units is around 5K users (two finger prints each) if memory serves me right. Enrolling snf uploading user 5001 will over write the oldest template on the units but it should still be in the DB... the body corp should get another company to have a look at thee installation, could be cowboys who don't know any better.

Thanks Andy - I didn't think it would be junk, considering how expensive the system allegedly was. I uploaded my prints yet again today. It seems myself and one other person have this problem. Well, one other that I have been able to verify so far.

Touch your forehead before scanning, will produce a clear and thus accurate scan.
