Not sure if I’m alone in this, but I’ve been thinking of ways to make extra money.

Every YouTuber seems to be doing crypto pump-and-dumps, and for the most part, they get away with it. I’m old I don’t understand crypto, but I do understand why people keep investing in anything. Some of us (and yes, we’ll never admit it) still play the lottery, even though we know the odds of winning are incredibly small.

Why do we do this? Because South Africa can be a tough place to make good money. So, I started looking into how much franchises make. Some of these businesses pull in R1.2 billion a year! That’s an insane amount of money. How is that even possible?

Now, granted, some franchises cost anywhere from R10 million to R13 million to start. That’s a lot, making it almost impossible for the average person to even consider investing let alone imagine it becoming profitable.

For me, retail has always seemed like the most realistic option. Owning and operating a mine or an industrial complex feels completely out of reach. But what’s even crazier is how many people get scammed out of thousands, and these scammers just walk free. They never intended to pay anyone back; they just followed a formula and conned thousands of people out of millions.

Investment scams aren’t new. We all know what they look like, yet thousands of people still fall for them.

So, my questions are:

Can we create a legitimate business and crowdfund it?
Can we design built-in investment protection?
Would it even work?

I don’t know. But let’s be honest how many of us have a retirement fund that will actually allow us to retire? How many of us have the skills to run a business successfully?

Scammers use the same old tactics: Give investors a false sense of security. But what if we could move past that? What if we could create a fund big enough to actually make an impact?

For example, imagine an app where everyone votes on what the fund should invest in, for how long, and within set limits. Once the cycle ends, the fund automatically pays out to all investors and resets, allowing people to buy into the next venture.

Would this even work? Honestly, I don’t think so. It would be way too easy for someone to turn it into just another scam.

So, for the programmers and smart people here how could we get something like this off the ground in a way that actually benefits us?

I am just ****ing tired to see people driving 4 million rand cars, living in 10 million rand homes and the rest of us can't even keep the ****ing lights on anymore. It is not about working hard anymore. Hard work has limits to how much someone is willing to pay for that work. That is a hard limit and face it, it is a big ****ing wall lately as more mines close, more business leave this country.

I know a family that was able to operate within the current business requirement restrictions and managed to get no less then 3 large retail stores. They obviously had money to begin with but many of us don't. that is what this is, how can we get ourselves to that level collectively without backstabbing, scamming and all the other ****? How do we do this on a legit doable level?

Well I have no ****ing clue and yes I am pissed at the dude that drove past me in his new blacked out R8 with no number plates. Here I am working past midnight and Eskom is about to **** me over so hard next month that I had to prepare for days that we will not have power on the ****ing meter.

Let’s become influencers. You and me. We’ll records ourselves dopping and arguing every week. Occasionally we’ll invite other forum members to give technical solutions to common problems, review cars, and so on, but then we’ll troll them and yell drunken abuse at them.

I was thinking starting a channel of a old dude playing games but I think that has been done to the point that no one cares

Nah, we just need to be bright and original for the first few episodes and then once we’re endearing, they’ll swallow whatever shít we release.

After we build the base, we start the memecoin pump-and-dump and prostitution ring.

You lost me at scamming people with a pump-and-dump. The last thing I want to do is end up in a small dark prison with big old Bear giving me the winks

Just leave that part to me. You can say you had no idea what I was up to.

Why would this be better than what is already on the market?

The problem with South Africa is that the economy is in the toilet. Opening a new business is more likely to fail than succeed.

These guys for example;
I know a family that was able to operate within the current business requirement restrictions and managed to get no less then 3 large retail stores. They obviously had money to begin with but many of us don't. that is what this is, how can we get ourselves to that level collectively without backstabbing, scamming and all the other ****? Why do they have money? Likely because they have skills and knowledge you or I simply don't have. Throwing in a bunch of random people and getting them to vote on what looks like a good fund doesn't seem to be a good idea.

Why these schemes like yours don't work is because the person operating the scheme, even if they are doing it for their clients, will not do it for free. They will charge a fee, and that eats away at any sort of profitability.

The only really viable way for normal working people to get ahead in this economy is to get a second job. But again that is horrendously difficult in South Africa, because a second job in SA would need night hours, and night hours are when criminals play due to crappy policing. If you are lucky, you can moonlight your second job from home.

Here are a few YouTube ideas that probably haven't been done:

“Paint Drying Daily” – A channel that uploads a new video every day of paint drying in real time.

“Silent Podcasts” – A podcast-style channel where two people sit in silence for an hour, occasionally nodding.

“Microscopic Traffic Reports” – Daily updates on the movement of dust mites and bacteria on a specific kitchen counter.

“Celebrity Toaster Reviews” – A channel where Hollywood celebrities review different toasters, but they aren’t allowed to talk about anything except the toaster’s performance.

“404 Not Found” – A channel that uploads random videos but deletes them immediately after they are posted.

“Cooking with No Ingredients” – A cooking show where the host explains recipes but never actually cooks anything.

I reckon I could pull off that last one.

I guarantee you will get subs, maybe not millions, but you will get some.
We in that age now. People on the weirdest spectrums are everywhere

Paint Drying!! I will sub

options to make money, as somebody else mentioned moonlighting with another job from home,
corruption, criminality, drugs, and theft or being a politician is all a nice way of making money, till it isnt and we "eat the rich"

what I have learned is do the best you can with what you have enjoy the modest things you do have,
and bide your time and wait for an opportunity, it will come, you have to be patient,

unless of course you have generational wealth, and money isnt an issue.

ive often thought about how much crime there is in SA, and how almost every nice R8 is driven by a Criminal,
or gangster or really bad dude that you wouldn't last 10 min next to without being strangled by your intestines

also these people with money go into the back story, and you figure out that it isnt all it appears to be,
daddy money, criminals, theft, gangs, murder, drugs , abalone,

successful business owner? if the business is pimping maybe, but a business that changes peoples lives?
dont see too many of those.

There is a lot of bad crap and not enough insight on how good some apps are and what the actual risks are.

You mean giving you the wanks.

Ponzi Scam. They seem to work all the time with no consequences.

You need perspective. See how small the SA tax base is, not everyone is driving a R4m car or stays in a R10m house.

Don't look for short cuts.... they rarely ever work.
Making money takes blood, sweat and tears.
