i just bought my new pc and have slotted my 2*1GB memory sticks into the MB.
It is at the moment in dual channel configuration. Will I only see 1GB in total or is one of them not seated properly?
Im in the middle of copying large amount of data onto the new box and dont want to fiddle right now.
I think Id rather just go for 2GB in non dual channel mode, I believe the performance increase is not worth it??
TIA

Dude, if its 2x 1gb in single channel or dual channel it has to show 2gb total. not 1gb. and the performance increase over dual and single is not important. imo i dont think the amount of ram really affects disk transfer speed.

I dont think you seated the one module properly, and its always a good idea to insert the modules one at a time, i.e. Insert one then boot up, then insert another and boot up

Dual Channel memory is not like RAID 1. If you have 2*1GB in a Dual Channel config you'll have 2GB of memory and not 1GB. Dual Channel was just invented to theoretically double the rate of transfer of data from the memory controller to the CPU to avoid bottle necks.

cheers for the help, 1 stick deff fubar.
For the record it was 2*1GB sticks of Apogee 1066 ddr2 ram...just one of them. *Sigh* back to the shop again....
